What’s going on with Hollywood and the radical liberals in our country? How is it that a movie, The Passion of the Christ was not nominated for a Global Globe and probable will not be nominated for an Academy Award? Is Hollywood anti-God or are they afraid of the awesome power of Christ? The lack of recognition makes no sense. The Passion of the Christ was much more than a movie. It was a once and a lifetime experience. The most common response that I heard from people once they experienced The Passion was “everyone must see this movie!” The passion set box office records and was one of the most purchased video/DVD’s of the year (2004).

Why is it The Passion does not receive positive recognition and the trash that

Michael Moore spews- out receives an Academy Award and tons of positive recognition from Hollywood and the left? Has an audience attending a Michael Moore movie wept aloud? I saw the Passion in theaters three times and the audience response was the same on all three occasions. People glued silently to the movie with the only sounds heard were many people weeping out load. When the movie ended there was an entire audience, stunned and silent. For several minutes, many just sat in their seats and did not leave for several minutes. I have never had a theater experience like that.

I am a bit confused but not sadden. As a Catholic man, I believe the liberals have unwittingly given the greatest gift to those who produce this great film. Grace!

We have been told that what ever reward you receive from man will be yours on earth and God’s reward is in heaven. By “persecuting” the people who are responsible for the message and denying them their “earthly” rewards they have unwittingly given them the greatest gift of all!

Your thoughts are appreciated.

GREAT THREAD!
To me it all comes down to the dumbing-down/disrespect of people and awards, especially in America. Awards mean NOTHING anymore. Just look at who has been getting the “Peace” prize. All those film and music awards are meaningless. Those guys are nobodys. Just look at who has been getting awards for anything hollywood puts out, they are the worst actors, worst plots, worst acting, etc. The Passion took in half a billion! take that Hollywood! Im sorry i just get worked up by these guys when i shouldnt. True there is a lot of anti-Christianity invloved, in fact some of the best reviews/honors go to the most anti-Christian stuff. Same thing goes to sports, the awards mean nothing anymore.

No greater movie ever made (personal opinion). Mel Gigson and the entire cast and crew deserve to be recognized.

But I believe that God will reward Mel Gibson and all those involved with this most important movie.

Whats more important, Souls won for heaven or some trophy which will gather dust on a shelf?!

Heaven in the ultimate PRIZE AND REWARD. God bless Mr. Gibson for his vision and gift.

Re Academy Awards - Last year they created a special award for a pedophile, and bemoaned the fact that he could not come into the U.S. to accept it. That gives the measure of their value.

Well Hollywood is embarassed The Passion was as successful as it was. Besides, Hollywood is reluctant to anything reward anything religious.

Look at the type of movies that Hollywood puts out and the type of movies that win awards…they all glorify sex, pre-marital sex, women having children out of wedlock, drugs, alcohol abuse, violence, cursing, homosexuality, materialism, etc…I can easily understand the lack of recognition, because hollywood must refuse to believe in the message of Mel Gibson’s movie, because once they start believing it and understanding it…they will realize they need to change their lives and start living for Christ and start living the beatitudes…and they are not willing to do that, so they ignore reality and continue to live in their dreamworld where money and fame are all that matters.

In this case, being snubbed by Hollywood and the Academy IS, or would be a great award. I bet Mel won’t waste much time fretting over it.
BTW - are the nominations for Oscar made yet? When do they do that? I could care less about any other movie. I just don’t go anymore. But I saw TPOTC 2x’s, and will go buy the DVD for lent.

/QUOTE]

Did you catch the last interview he did on EWTN? He basically said as much, and that he wouldn’t have even bothered putting it up for the Oscar if it weren’t for all the other people involved - someone pointed out to him that they deserved a chance & he agreed. An admirable stance.

Hollywood will snub this film & anything like it because of all the reasons already mentioned, but primarily for the fact that one of their own, a very successful actor/director, dared to point out the shallowness & hypocrisy of the whole entertainment industry.

I remember seeing a poll in a newspaper once that asked “Which DVD would you rather have on your shelf? *The Passion *or Fahrenheit 9/11?” The results?? It was about evenly tied. 😦
