I want to make sure my thinking is correct: would God “eternally” experience the Passion since Christ is part of the trinity and has a divine as well as a human nature?
Not necessarily. Remember, Christ has two minds, one human and one divine (he is fully human after all, so he must have a human mind). This is confirmed by the Councils of the Holy Church; Constantinople I condemned the heresy of Apollinarianism which denies Christ had a human mind, and Constantinople III condemned the heresy of Monothelitism which stated Christ only had one will. Now, since Christ has two minds, and his divine mind is eternal, unchangeable, and impassible (since he is fully God), it is only in his human mind that he literally experienced the pains and sufferings of the passion. This human mind is in time, and thus Christ did not have the experiences eternally. Hope that is helpful!
