I’m a little confused:

There are five ancient patriarchates: Rome, Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem. How, then, did the archbishop of Venice come to be called the patriarch of Venice? Are there other patriarchates that I’m not aware of?

In the Western Church, the Patriarch of Venice is an honorific – nothing more (as is the Patriarch of Lisbon, etc.).
