Sitting in Latin American class today and my professor brought this up, what was it? He basically said that it gave the Spanish crown the royal right to appoint “high clergy” which brought the church and the state relationship very close. It didn’t sound right, a king appointing clergy but then again who knows?

Anyone?

You will also see this in French and English kingdoms as well. The Pope had to approve the pick. It was a consession that would backfire when the Kings became less and less Catholic. No matter where you look in past cultures you will always find Church and State working in consert with each other.

Thanks
The Pope had to approve the pick.
This is the part he forgot mention. This makes more sense. The professor made it seem like the Church was much more of a political institution than religious one with the picking of clery being left completely to the state.

God bless
