Studies Connect the ‘Pill’ and Breast Cancer: Family Planning Groups Put Women’s Health at Risk

MEDIA ADVISORY, Oct. 24 /Christian Newswire/ – Separate studies published in the January 2006 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine, the October 2006 edition of Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention, and the October 2006 edition of Mayo Clinic Proceedings connect oral contraception use with an increased risk of breast cancer.

The No Room for Contraception Campaign issued the following statement in regard to these studies:

“Considering the associated cancer risks, one has to wonder if it really is a good idea to ‘treat’ the healthy state of fertility with know a known carcinogen” said Ruben Obregon, President of the campaign.

I think for some people, they really don’t care if they hurt themselves or they destroy life when they take these pills. For them, these negatives don’t matter —what is important for them is not to get pregnant. because they see it as a burden.

Thing is, if they do get sick because of taking these pills, they might end up with an even bigger burden. Cancer can affect you physically, mentally, financially… is it really worth the risk?

Women who take these contraceptive pills should be made aware of the possible negative effects on them.

In 21 out of 24 studies the increased risk of breast cancer is from 9% to 197%. In only two studies does it show reduced results. So if I were advising a woman on scientific data only I would tell them not to use BC.
Meta-Analysis: Oral Contraceptives and Pre-menopausal Breast Cance

Twenty one out of twenty-three of these retrospective studies demonstrated an increased risk. The odds ratio of combining these studies for this meta-analysis noted a 44% increased risk, which was significant at the 99% confidence interval (OR, 1.44; 99% CI 1.24-1.68).

I watched my grandmother suffer with this horrible disease. (she never took the pill) This disease not only caused her to suffer and die it caused the rest of the family to suffer. It is not something that is personal. It makes everyone that the person with the cancer loves and comes into contact with suffer with them.

So please don’t make others suffer for your decision to be “child free”. The person taking the pills is not the only one involved.

The other end of it if you don’t want to mention “religion” is the economic cost. Families can go bankrupt for this selfish notion of “child free”. Insurance costs go up, government taxes for health care goes up and the cost to others goes on and on.

There is no such thing as a “free lunch” everything we decide against the natural law (nature) comes at a cost.

Another thing to remember. Today the divorce rate in America is around 50% (most people contracept). Studies have shown those couples using Natural Family Planning (NFP) have a divorce rate around 2%.

Therefore NFP should be the choice for those interested in strong relationships and not commiting chemical abortions.

See the Couple to Couple League for more information.

A new study from the Mayo Clinic has concluded that there is “a measurable and statistically significant” connection between the pill and pre-menopausal breast cancer, re-enforcing the recent classification of oral contraceptives as Type 1 carcinogens.

That ruling from the International Agency for Cancer Research was supported by the report published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings this month that comes even as Breast Cancer Awareness Month is being highlighted by pink ribbons, pink soup cans and other promotional devices.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported in its July 29, 2005 press release that a team of scientists has determined that combined oral contraceptives (estrogen plus progestogen) and combined menopausal therapy are “carcinogenic to humans.” Menopausal therapy was formerly classified as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.” It has been upgraded to a Group 1 classification, “sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans.” Oral contraceptives received the same classification.

This provides additional biological support for a link between abortion and increased breast cancer risk. All three risks involve estrogen overexposure.
