The Pink Elephant in the Church

Fr. Charles Dahlby

GUEST COLUMNIST

As a Catholic priest, I have an investment in issues that affect the Church and the people of God. And, as a Christian, I have an obligation to speak out. So let me make the following points as clearly as I can:
  1. Most of the scandals and evils we see in the Church today are brought about primarily by homosexuality. Homosexuality is an objective moral disorder and unacceptable in the priesthood! For nearly two thousand years the teachings of the scripture, the magisterium, and Tradition—the three sources of revelation which give us truth—have all agreed: homosexuality as an “abomination”! Only recently have Phil and Oprah and a few TV sitcoms disagreed. But God doesn’t change, and Phil and Oprah won’t be on the throne to judge us!

Fr. Charles Dahlby has diagnosed the problem correctly. The more people recognise the problem the sooner it will be corrected. Ignorance in this matter has been devasting.

If the new document from Rome on homosexuality soon to be released leaves it up to the bishops or leaves loopholes in dealing with such a “complex issue”, then the floodgates will swing wide. Heterosexual priests will not want to send fine young men from good families to the seminary. Priests will need to know with clarity their bishops policy on homosexuals in the seminary and the priesthood and be allowed to incardinate in a diocese where they can minister in obedience and good conscience. This could well be the issue that reveals the schism in the Church. So the real issue is – HOMOSEXUALS IN THE PRIESTHOOD! The solution is – GET THEM OUT!

I tend to agree with this article but I must affirm that Homosexuals can live chaistly, even in the priesthood. And that not all homosexuals are pedofiles. I agree that we need to be more careful about the screening process that we put our seminarians through. Soon to be a seminarian my self I will soon find out how careful the Archdocies of Seattle is about who they let in.

The current abuse scandal is not about pedophilia. It is about homosexuals acting our on teenage boys. Pederasty is what it is called.

The latest issue of New Oxford Review has an article by Michael Rose that details the saga of a priest in the Arlington, VA diocese who is living in a trailer with a small pension, facing canonical charges from his Bishop for a year plus.

His crime?

3 consecutive assignments under pastor immersed in child and homosexual pornography, one left the priesthood with a married woman with children, another was found embezzling funds, and a third was heavily involved in repusilve sex acts of every variety. The priest facing the penalties simply reported this information to his Bishop.

As far as I’m concerned, many of these Bishops are homosexual activist thugs that have no place in the Catholic Church. Thiese stories are stomach-turning every time I read them. The protection of the perverse and sinful “leaders” at the expense of the faithful and Christ-centered is an abomination of satanic proportions.

Wake up Bishops and unfaithful priests - the scandal has escaped through the doors, the windows, the chimney and is running in the street screaming. You cannot hide your wickedness. It is exposed - and you will not hold the church together by hit and run smear on the inside and peace and love fuzziness on the outside. It’s over - change now or you will be changed.

I agree with Fix - get them out - ASAP.

Thanks, but I quoted the article in that post.

I can’t see much of a change, unless the good bishops start to correct the bad ones, publicly if need be. Rome must step in.

True but in the article it talked about pedophilia a little bit…

The press have refused to make this distinction known.

Yes, and I think for two reasons. One is they are biased in favor of homosexual acts and secondly the distinction is subtle to one who has not thought about these issues.

And the third reason is they really hate the Church…I can’t remember who wrote it but someone wrote a book called “The last bias” dealing with the Catholic Church and the media.

I am confused - is it homosexuals or the practice of homosexuality that is the problem? I do not mean to be disrespectful, but there are many more problems percentage wise in the “outside world” with sexual attacks against women, children and other men by heterosexuals than homosexuals. If the issue is celibacy and/or chastity then wouldn’t this apply to men entering the priesthood, period?
The horrors of the scandal is due to pedophiles being allowed to function as priests - and many preyed upon females.

I am just asking - please enlighten me as to the church teaching on this issue.

Thank you.

The laity have the ability to be the impetus of change. I’d like it sooner rather than later. But it will happen, at least, by later as the younger members of the Church (priest and laity) are far more orthodox than what we have in control right now. The change will happen on God’s timing as the gates of hell (and that is what is behind this explicitly) will not prevail.

The practice of homosexual acts is sinful. The inclination towards those acts is not sinful.

More than 85% of the abuse cases were homosexual in nature (not pedophilia) Statistically, homosexually inclined persons are more likely to be promiscuous and engage in pedophilia.

In my prior post, I outlined just one situation in the Arlignton diocese in which homosexually inclined priests are engaging in pornography, including child pornography. Undoubtedly, this is grave sin. They have a blanket of protection over them by sympathetic bishops and priests. This is not an isolated problem but is systemic.

Homosexual inclination is disorderd and affects the priest’s ability to minister properly in both truth and love. This is being demonstrated clearly.

The systemic problem of homosexuality in the priesthood must be resolved.

There is no pedophile scandal in the Church. It is almost exclusively one of homosexual men acting out on teen males. That is homosexuality, not pedophelia.
