I was reading the comments over at Digg.com today on a story that claims the US gov’t is trying to put the online porn business out of business (link to the comments )
If you read the comments you will see over and over and over again comments from people that say “I love porn!” Now this unfortunately is not a shock for me to hear. As someone who works on the Internet for a living, I am finding that people are more and more open about their love for porn and more willing to share it with other people. It is almost becomming a casual pleasure within social circles.
I started wondering about this this morning and how this is going to effect the next generation of parents. The people who are so open about porn are typically under 30 years old (many in their teens) and are evidently very impressionable. Not only has the Internet allowed for the proliferation of porn, it is making it an acceptable form of entertainment.
I have not heard much in Catholic circles on how the church can combat this growing trend. Well, actually, I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how bad porn is, but I have not heard anything addressing the acceptability among youth that people naturally look at porn.
I’d be interested in others thoughts on this topic.
