I’m in a Catholic women’s prayer group on campus (I just became a formal member tonight, it’s modeled after a household in Franciscan University) and one devotion they encourage is the Consecration to Mary. Well, three of us girls were doing it (one has just consecrated today while two of us are consecrating on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe) and God has used it to be a very powerful influence in my life.

St. Louis de Montfort, in his prayers to Jesus and Mary, asks them that if there remains something in his soul that isn’t pleasing to God, that it may be removed forever. Well, a couple nights ago, a Catholic friend of mine noticed that I seemed out of it and pulled me aside. I ended up telling him everything I’ve been struggling with, many issues that I’ve struggled with my entire adolescence, and realized that I hadn’t really dealt with these issues as much as I thought I had. Some that I thought weren’t so serious actually really were serious. And he helped me, he knows me pretty well so he took what he observed, added that to what I was telling him, and we both figured out why I struggled so much. It lead to lots of hugs, tears, emotions, etc. I did not even think that any of it would come to the surface, I just thought I was a little down. I guess God was showing me, through my friend, that there was a lot preventing me from getting closer to Him. My friend then told me to write down everything that was going on, seal it in an envelope, and give it to him (he promised not to read it and I trust him. Even if he did, I wouldn’t mind because everything written was what I had told him). Once I did, everything was cleansed out of me. I felt like I was really offering it all to God and letting Him change me.

It got finished today, on the Feast of Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception (funny because my friend and I are deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother and I’m consecrating myself to her). I know now what I have to do. I’m so grateful to God for showing Himself to me in this way and also for giving me a friend who won’t let me get away from admitting what’s really going on in my life.

I hope this goes well for you. I take it your doing the 33 days of readings and prayer. Glance over the 32nd days readings about the changing ways of creatures. Though you may be doing this with others, it is the Spirit you are to count on. God Bless, Tim

Ours is called Totus Tuus Maria. I don’t know if it is in existence at Steubenville or if it’s just modeled after a typical Steubenville household (one of our leaders is a Franciscan alum).

Yep, it is a FUS household for women. I guess you are in the Eastern Chapter :).

Have fun!
