My frriends and I just got back from a road trip to New Mexico where we visited a Benedictine monastery, St. Francis Cathedral, and Chimayo. My friends were really shown the deeply profound side of Catholicism on this trip because of these sites and one of my Lutheran friends bought a Rosary and a book on how to say the Rosary! I think it was a rather spiritual experience for my friends (two are Lutheran and one is Atheist).

Now that we’ve gotten back though, we’re all being harassed on Facebook (similar to MySpace) by some Mormon friends we have. They wrote public messages asking why we had gone to “Catholic Camp” as they so bitterly put it, and my friend who bought the Rosary said they asked him why he bought a Rosary. He said they made him feel like he’d converted and was the worst person on Earth.

I feel like an O.T. prophet. These Mormons used to be my friends, but I participate in a few religious activities, and now they’re venomous! They act like nothing’s happening when I see them face-to-face, but online they’re very rude. Hypocrites!

Please pray for my friends and myself that we can overcome this persecution and be able to offer forgiveness. Pray for my Mormon friends as well that they can open themselves to the Truth.

"Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?! You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s. Mat 7:3,5

Nothing surprises me. I’ve come across people from various religions who are rude and discourteous everyday on the internet. The only thing we can do is pray for them and don’t drop down to their level. I’ll join you in pray. :gopray:

Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake.

Be glad and rejoice for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.

Well, this got me wondering who was the patron saint of the Internet, and I found St. Isidore, who also patronizes students! Seems like a good place to start. Whether it’s myspace, Facebook, video game forums, professional forums, political or religious forums, any topic you can think of, there are plenty of flaming respondents who are basically talking to themselves while typing, so always realize that what you read is a reflection of their own state of mind, and Thank God that you don’t have to spend all day with that kind of interior dialog going on! That would be the first step to compassion in this situation. I pray with you that patience, tolerance and respect prevails.

Just for knowledge, where either you or your friends mormons at one time?

No. None of my friends who went on the trip with me have ever been Mormon.

Wow, then that was pretty belligerent of them to razz you for being interested in your faith. If that is all it takes to get non-Catholics riled, perhaps more Catholics should do it. I’m looking up relgious communities in my area right now. 🙂

Oh Lord, I pray that you give these servants of Your the strength to bear this burden of persecution, for Your Name’s sake. Jesus, You know what they are going through. Please walk beside them and hold them in Your loving arms. In Jesus Name we pray.

If you wanted to give as good as you get (not terribly Christian but sometimes incredibly effective) just razz your Mormon friends every time they say they’re going to Temple or doing door-to-door work or anything else related to Mormonism.

Amen, Stitch. You are in my prayers scapularkid.

Praying…

Hail Mary, full of Grace, The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

I pray for enlightenment for your friends, that they may see the beauty of the Catholic Faith and come home to the Church. I pray for your steadfast faith, that no matter what you cling to your Catholic Faith and hold on to the Church Christ gave us.
