In the midst of the beginning of the Pandemic, i had already acquired an Icon of Maria Salus Populi Romani, “Mary, Protectress of the Roman People”, one of the famous “Luke” images" that tradition says the Evangelist Luke painted and therefore a possible close representation of the face of the Immaculata. Its the one that Pope Francis had brought out from Santa Maria Maggiore during the 2020 Urbi et Orbi, and has a history of miraculous intervention against plagues.

In the process of acquiring it, i ended up also by chance acquiring a Purple Scapular - linked to a Breton Stigmatist by the name of Marie Julie Jahenny.

It has been expressed to me by some that Marie is a church approved figure, although i had never heard of her before.

Its been expressed by others that the Purple Scapular is essentially a Superstition dreamnt up by Marie Julie Jahenny and has no Church approval.

Not sure what (if anything at all) i should do with it - i simply had it blessed but beyond that, remain uncertain what i should do with it.

Any thoughts you may have on the matter would be appreciated.

According to Catholic Answers’ apologist, Fr. Charles Grondin, Jahenny’s prophecies are not approved by the Church. The following is from the old CA “Ask an Apologist” section where real CA apologists would answer questions.

Are Marie-Julie Jahenny's prophecies approved? Ask an Apologist
Has the Church approved Marie-Julie Jahenny’s prophecies? On the internet some people call her “St. Marie Julie Jahenny” but I can find no proof that she has been classified as a saint by the Church.
The Miracle Hunter website (Miraclehunter.com ) also does not list them among approved apparitions.

There are various other unreliable websites that try to claim her bishop approved her private revelations, but I’m pretty sure if he had, Fr Grondin and Miracle Hunter would say so.

Having said that, I’m not aware of any prohibition on the purple scapular if you wanted to wear it for some devotional reason, or hang it in your home. If you got it blessed then you need to treat it with the respect you would give any blessed sacramental.

Hmm… not surprised. I’ve noticed this devotion to her has had a strange uptick in certain Traditionalist circles - esp. the ones who were thinking back in March that the “Three Days of Darkness” were just around the corner and that the Illumination of Conscience was supposed to happening sometime this month.

Well - guess i can file it under “Christian artwork” and leave it at that. Her prophecies may be a bit kooky, but the sentiments expressed by the scapular (devotion to the Lord and his Blessed Mother) are well within the lines of the faith.

Thanks
