I just submitted the following question to the “Ask an Apologist” forum, but my question seemed to disappear off the face of the earth. Is someone reviewing the questions before they can go out there? This happened to me once before, and then all of a sudden my question appeared. Here is my question:
Since we are free to choose our actions on this earth, I have always been intrigued by the question of what might have been if I chose a different path. For example, suppose that it was God’s will for someone to have six children. Let’s say that this person instead practiced family planning (either natural or artificial), so these children were never born. Would God see to it that these children were born to different parents, or would they not be born at all? I can think of a lot of similar questions, such as who would my children be if I had married someone else? These questions may be too profound for anyone to answer, but I was wondering if any Pope or saint has ever attempted an answer to this question. The movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” is an excellent illustration of what I’m asking about.
