In this case, the use of the word afraid does not mean scary.
In this case, the meaning is basically saying, im sorry, but i prefer the NT.
Some words in english can have up to 2 or 3 meanings.

The translation of the verses provided above is also faulty. I intend to provide correct meaning of the above verses with the true context for benefit of the members here:

As said many times before the Devil is the great deceiver and put enough truth in his faulsehood to devieve many.
