An interesting note has been posted on a popular blog hosted by the well regarded Father Zuhlsdorf. I am sure many readers of these fora are familiar with it.
His blog cites a classic letter from a pastor to his flock.
This pastor was asked to celebrate the extraordinary Mass. The answer is no.
First, he admits…rather vaguely with respect to details…that he “reacted”. He apologizes for that. Okay…let us move on, but with that in mind, perhaps.
Then he gives reasons that may indeed be legitimate…overwork, crowded schedule, not enough priests…reasons that are difficult to counter definitively.
But then the truth emerges. He speaks of the “ecclesiology” of this liturgy, and how it’s not our ecclesiology today. He speaks of the problems he has with this “ecclesiology” that does not respect women, lay participation, etc., etc.
Lastly, he admits his church is not renovated and would be ideal for this liturgy. But he firmly notes that as long as he is pastor, it will not happen.
Actually, he then reminds people about donating to the church…
Ever wonder why “traditionalists” feel persecuted and paranoid? This pastor’s attitude is not unique…
