I remember stumbling upon a video through an advertisement made by some group called “The Restored Church of God.” I clicked on the ad link because it looked exactly like a Catholic apologetics ad of some kind, with words like “Which is the one true Church?” and the like. From what I saw of the videos they seem to claim some special connection with the apostles and made subtle challenges to Catholicism. I can’t find those videos now although it isn’t hard to find the website. Has anyone heard of the RCOG or is anyone familiar with it? Is it somehow affiliated with the Assemblies of God?

I listened to as much of it as I could tolerate. God’s church has to be small, because it was referred to in Luke as a “little flock.” God’s church has to observe the Saturday Sabbath.

It’s an entity built on yet another interpretation of the Bible. Boring. Annoying preacher. Protestant. No sale.

I also found that odd, considering that at the time Jesus’ disciples were a relatively small group, and also at the end of the gospel Jesus explicitly said “go forth and make disciples of all nations,” which would take away the whole “little flock” concept from the modern church.

I wonder how many protestant denominations claim to be the true church as opposed to another interpretation based on scripture? From what i understand the SDA and COC claim this; I could be wrong.

The RCOG just seemed strange to me because it sounded like they were basically copying the claims of Catholic apologists and then trying to use scripture to back themselves up. If the “real church” as he calls it existed from the beginning in spite of the Catholic Church then why would it be called the “restored church”?

They have as much claim to being the restored church as do the Mormons, do they not? I have no idea if the Assemblies of God claim to be a restoration of the original Church, but the entire idea of a restoration, in light of the promises Christ made to his Church, is simply unbiblical.

This group is an offshoot of Hertbert Armstrong’s Worldwide Church of God, founded in 1999, by David Pack. They’re seventh day sabbatarians, but that’s about all I know.

It has not relation to the Assemblies of God or even to the Church of God (Cleveland) and its offshoots.

Right. Armstrong was originally ordained with the General Conference of the Church of God (Seventh-Day). However, he later started his own church, the Worldwide Church of God. This was widely regarded as a cult.

A happy ending happened nonetheless. The WCG experienced a kind of doctrinal reformation, and is now known as “Grace Communion International” and is no longer considered a cult. It even has membership in the National Association of Evangelicals.

The Restored Church of God was, as its name implies, founded by former WCG members that want to keep Armstrong’s unorthodox doctrines. So presumably, this “church” would still be considered a cult by most Christians.

I stopped watching the video after he started speaking 4 words, cite a verse, speak another verse, cite the bible, etc.

Their “Pastor General” David Pack claims to have found the truth of the Bible that nobody else has because Satan has deceived everyone. The “Counterfeit Church” (i.e. Catholic first, and then all other Christian Churches) has also been led by Satan to disseminate lies and half-truths, because Satan controls this world. Mr. Pack, on the other hand, is not deceived, because he is an apostle, and he has special knowledge of the Bible.

In fact, Mr. Pack is precisely the type of deceiver that he is warning his followers about. He is in fact an anti-Christ because he is denying the truth about Jesus Christ. He claims that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is about the coming of the “Kingdom of God” and that Jesus is just the Messenger of this Gospel. In other words, the message is the important thing, and while Jesus is really important too, since he will rule the Kingdom when it comes on earth, he is just the Messenger when it comes to the Gospel. The Gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus proclaimed was the same Gospel proclaimed by John the Baptist, David, Abraham, and basically every prophet.

Mr. Pack says Christians have to observe the Sabbath, and that the Lord’s Supper is only to be taken on Passover. He just ignores the mass of evidence that says that apostles were “breaking bread” regularly and especially on the first day of the week. For him, the Lev. 23 rules on the Passover are all that really matter here. It almost seems as if Mr. Pack would rather be a Jew than a Christian, except that he does preach that Jesus will come again to rule the Kingdom of God on earth, and of course Mr. Pack will no doubt have a prominent role to play in the Kingdom.

In short, the Restored Church of God is a dangerous cult. They will not allow just anyone to attend their Church; but only people who have already agreed to follow all of Pack’s private interpretations of the scriptures. Pack is a very persuasive and knowledgeable speaker, with considerable persuasive powers. Although initially he jusitifed his small number of church members by claiming that smallness is a hallmark of the true church, lately he is celebrating his church’s apparent rapid growth.
