The Resurrection Event - "An evolutionary leap forward"

Poor Pope B-he gets flack from all sides. Liberals are still chafing at his anti-gay marriage Christmas message delivered on Friday. As to “Jesus of Nazareth”, he puts “evolutionary leap” in quotes, using it as an analogy to establish an emphatic distinction between the relatively less relevant while nonetheless miraculous resuscitation from the dead (after which those raised still end up suffering a physical death later on) and a whole new life where the old has totally passed away, ushering in a “new dimension of reality” that completes creation, the “union of the finite with the infinite”, the “union of man with God”, the complete “conquest of death” by Jesus Christ, manifested by an incorruptible resurrected body.

I hope you don’t think I am giving him flack. This analogy is interesting. I was just attempting to understand what he meant by it. Some really interesting responses were posted.

That he gets flack from liberals just means that the Pope is still hugely relevant in the world today. It would be far worse to be ignored, I think.

That he gets flack from liberals just means that the Pope is still hugely relevant in the world today. It would be far worse to be ignored, I think.

Sorry- I wasn’t targeting anyone individually- although I’m probably a bit over-sensitive about some views of our pope. I often think he’s under-appreciated by either the traditional or the liberal camps-and I believe we have a real treasure in his teachings, which are quite orthodox, IMO. He just doesn’t fear pushing the limits in striving to explore better ways to explain and understand our faith, while keeping within the framework as dictated by Catholic doctrine.

Maybe the fact that he gets flak from the extremes at both ends means there’s a good chance he’s standing on solid ground.

I think he’s on the safest ground one can be on - too “traditional” for the Liberals and not conservative enough for the “Traditionalists”. I would take that as the biggest compliment ever!
