According to this article from a priest-writer of the Archdiocese of Washington, correcting sinners is counted by Catholicism as one of the spiritual works of mercy. Christians are often told not to judge others to shame them from correcting others. However, as this writer explains, the Bible’s command not to judge others means a judgement that is harsh and unmerciful condemnation. This is a great tool of modernism in our church - that is, heresy.

Admonishing the sinner is a work of mercy. We must judge to correct the sinner. There is no way around it.

A better translation of this scripture verse is “do not condemn lest you be condemned.”

This should make it clear that we have to be **very **careful when creating translations of the bible. Changing a single word causes a rupture in the fabric of Truth.

I think it all stems from a misunderstanding of what is meant by judgement.

Can we know if someone’s ACTION is sinful? Yes. Because we know what matters are sinful and which aren’t. We even know which matters are grave and which aren’t.

Can we know if someone’s ACTION makes them guilty of mortal sin? No. The only thing we can know is that they violated grave matter and we counsel them that they have done so and that this COULD be a mortal sin.

Can we know if someone is going to hell? No. We are not given that insight at all.

In other words, when we correct the sinner, we cannot tell them that they are guilty of mortal sin and will go to hell if they don’t instantly repent… but we CAN tell them that what they are doing is grave matter, which is extremely hurtful to God and should be avoided because it is a sinful action.
