The Youtube title is kind of clickbait’ish, but still, a good video on some of the basics of Confession 🙂 Enjoy.

That is how I experience it, but normally there is no (optional) scripture recited by the priest.

Well, this pretty much sounds like how my confessions go, except that
  • I’ve never had a priest do a Scripture reading while I’m in there. There’s almost always a line or a time crunch. I’m also just as happy not to have to listen to a reading while I"m focusing on having to mention my sins. My mind would not be on the reading if he did read it.
  • I’d say I get the scripture verse at the beginning about half the time from priests.
As for “Bless me Father, for I have sinned” it may not be in the official ritual, but it’s the way thousands of us were taught and it is helpful to lead into “My last confession was _____ ago and my sins are ____” without being too abrupt.

He talks too little about the sorrow of sins, which is the most important thing, without which the Confession is invalid.

The sorrow of sins must be the interior climate of Confession but, to be so, it must be prepared before Confession, in mental prayer, in contemplation, calmly, taking time.

Without the sorrow, Confession is just a soulless technique, and it is invalid.

Sorrow is the most important thing to talk about when it comes to Confession: it must be the dominant sentiment of the penitent but, to be, it must be prepared first.
