The Rosary in church?

Hello, I recently joined a parish that is slightly charismatic with their hand and arm gestures. I have noticed that only a few pray the Rosary, and when it’s prayed it’s in the chapel. Truthfully, I don’t feel comfortable asking them dumb questions at this point.

I enjoy praying the Rosary in my pew for a half hour before the morning Mass, but I am the only one in that church doing that. The closest TLM is 30 miles one way, and it’s a 6 PM Mass.

Should I conform to the group and do my morning Rosary in the chapel, or should I be different and stay in my pew before Mass?

The back of the church is usually filled with school kids, so I want to make sure that I am a good example. Any one know whether there a general policy, or a right & wrong way? I remember something about the back row, but there is usually school kids back there.

No right or wrong way. Sit wherever you like. Arrive as early as you want and feel free to pray the Rosary. It’s your Church too!

I also like to arrive early and pray the Rosary because it puts me in the frame of mind that I need to be able to fully participate in the Mass. And I like to sit up at the front because I get more out of it if I have an unimpeded view of the alter. And some people prefer to sit in the middle or the back… again, no right or wrong way… mainly personal preference.

Perhaps the reason they are praying it in the chapel is because the school children are in the back of the church and they feel it is quieter in the chapel. I don’t think being “slightly charismatic” has anything to do with it. Almost every “charismatic” I know prays the Rosary, including me. Pray the Rosary any where you want to in the church.
 
I’m with grasscutter, there is no right or wrong way. The important thing is to say it…

If my TLM parish was ONLY 30 miles away I’d think I had died and gone to heaven. Mine is 120 miles each way. I have a friend whose TLM is 4 hours each way. Its an all day church EVENT.

Any how, I’d just find another parish or just proceed with my Rosary.

Glad to meet you, Carolyn,

I attend a weekday evening Charismatic Prayer Meeting in the next town, and I try to keep my charismatic gestures at that meeting. The reason being that Pope Benedict would like us to hold on to our traditional gestures during the Mass.

Ritual Signs and Gestures:

In Sacramentum Caritatis, Pope Benedict stressed the need for formation and instruction about the Sacred Mysteries of the Eucharist (“mystagogical catechesis”), so that Catholic people will more fully understand and be able to unite themselves interiorly with the action of the Eucharist. The Holy Father specifically mentions signs and gestures.

I guess I just don’t understand what praying the rosary before Mass has to do with a parish being slightly charismatic. I still think the fact that the back of the church is filled with school kids may have something to do with their praying the Rosary in the chapel where they can all sit together and not get distracted by the kids. That would be my guess. I see no connection between what is done by the people in the parish at Mass and your praying the Rosary before Mass. Do what you wish.

Dear Carolyn,

I apologize! I should have known better than to mention, “charismatics”, but I thought that the Traditional Catholic Section would be safe.

When it comes to charismatics, I was baptized in the Spirit during the late 1960’s with Lonnie Frisbee and the Jesus Movement. We are presently celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Northern California Catholic Charismatic Convention, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, next weekend. (May 25, 26, and 27th) I will be there all 3 days.

Truthfully, it’s a lot of fun, but *I will take the Rosary any day. *🙂
 
I just read a Sticky on the Charismatic Movement:

“For the present I am placing a moratorium on discussing the Charismatic Movement. Thank you all for your participation in past discussions.”

I’m new, so I didn’t know about it. Guess my whole thread needs to be deleted?
 
I would go to the TLM or if not just pray the Rosary wherever you think is best. I cannot imagine people getting mad because you are praying the Rosary.
 
Maybe most of them pray the Rosary at home? it’s a private devotion, after all.

Pray the Rosary wherever you feel like 🙂

It doesn’t need to be deleted. The “charismatic” part is not relevant. You are simply asking if you should be praying the Rosary with a group at the Church before Mass or if you can sit in the pew and pray by yourself.
Its entirely up to you.

There is a special feeling that one receives when praying the Rosary as a group.
Try joining them, you can always go back to praying alone.
 
I believe that unless it disburses you, you can ask them nicely to be more quite,so that you can say the Rosary, because it happen to me, were I told two Lady’s, that they were in the present of Jesus,if you what to talk,go to the back of the church,I,am trying to meditate,and your talking is dissberning me. Thank You
