I have removed the contents of this question as I fear some of it is a bit confusing and could confuse others.

We have no way of knowing if her first marriage was valid or not. We have no way of knowing if this planned marriage is valid. The current Church of England and “royal” family are rather questionable, to be charitable. Wish them the best, pray for them, be reserved in celebrating the rich and powerful.

Rich, maybe. Both the Crown and the persons of the Royal Family do have substantial assets.

But powerful? No. The Queen herself is bound by constitutional convention; even her exercise of her reserve powers need to be done very carefully at the risk of causing a constitutional crisis.

As for the rest of the royal family, they are slaves to protocol, and are among the least free people on the planet.

But they are royal, and legitimately so. It is not right to put the word “royal” in scare quotes when referencing them. You may not like them, but they are that.

Well, it’s Anglican, so AFAIK, none of the Catholic concepts of marriage can be applied here

, I am unsure as to whether this marriage will be valid
This is not your purview. Not anything for you to concern yourself with. Not something you can know.
I get a bit confused about pauline privilege and petrine privilege so I would like some guidance from someone more knowledgeable about this than myself.
Again, not anything for you to ponder or concern yourself with. You cannot know the validity and the Church will not be ruling on it since neither is Catholic nor have they approached the Church.

We cannot tell you that. View it in the most charitable light and move on.

Well yes and no. Ecclesial law does not apply but divine law does. HOWEVER we don’t apply it, the Church does. If approached. But the Church has not been approached and has not issued any decree. Therefore we don’t know and can’t know.

Exactly. It’s like a Mexican citizen asking a Russian about a decision of the American supreme court

They aren’t Catholic. The Catholic Church is not going to be asked for an opinion. Harry is now 6th in line to the throne. Hardly the same issue as Edward VIII. Why even worry about it?

So, everyone in the whole Kingdom knows Prince Harry and his American fiancée, Meghan Markle of “Suits” fame, will be tying the knot on 19 May at the Royal Chapel in Windsor Castle. As a patriotic Brit, and one of the minority of young people in this country who doesn’t want a socialist revolution to overthrow the Royal Family, I really want to wave my flag and celebrate, but, not to be a wet blanket, as a devout Catholic, I am unsure as to whether this marriage will be valid. Ms Markle has been married before, and, prior to her engagement, she was a mainline Protestant, but has since been baptised as an Anglican. Could it be her previous marriage was invalid as she wasn’t baptised with the correct formula, and, therefore, the Anglicans felt it necessary to baptise her properly? I get a bit confused about pauline privilege and petrine privilege so I would like some guidance from someone more knowledgeable about this than myself. This situation is almost identical to the marriage of Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson which caused a great deal of outrage in the 20th century. In summa, I would like to know whether this marriage will be valid.

Thanks in advance 🙂
She’s Anglican, not Catholic, and this is nothing like Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII.

It’s completely possible Markle was never previously baptized - I don’t know; I haven’t followed it that closely.

Simpson was a twice-divorced American and David (as he was known to the family) was the King of England. He abdicated to marry her in the 1930s. Quite the scandal all around.

Your next king is a divorcee and a known adulterer married to a divorcee and a known adulterer - it was all over the papers at the time, and he even admitted it publicly (just as well, actually). I’d be more worried about that (if you’re worried about anything) than the person who’s now sixth in line to the throne.

(Married to a British Royalist for the record, and I have no issues with the Royal Family myself. I think they’re fantastic for your country.)
