I believe that this thread has ended. Much like the Sabbath ended two thousand years ago Mat. 28.1, at least for those who believe in the Gospel.

BTW Herry, the SDAs and all of the other thousands of Protestant denominations are wrong.

The Catholic Church is the one true Church that was started by Jesus and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it 👍

Is this true? Is that what the “worship” service of the SDA consists of?

That description would be a generalization of the services… but it is true that in many of their evangelistic meetings and Bible Studies they spend several nights in the coures of a 16 meeting schedule on how the Catholic Church is the anit-Christ etc. This is part of the religious education for new members.

As far as their weekly services… they generally go something like this…

Opening hymn
Doxology
Opening Prayer
Scripture Reading
Tithing/Offering collection
Prayer over offering/tithings
Special musical piece
Garden of Prayer
Some have a childrens story
Prayer
Sermon
Closing Prayer

I would estimate that I heard an about 1 or 2 sermons per quarter which addressed SDA beliefs about the Catholic Church. (This would vary depending on the how conservative the church was, and how evangelistically minded it was.) It is however regularly spoken of in Wednesday evening Bible Studies, new member education, and “Sabbath” school classes before the worship service, and the writings of the Churches prominent authors and Prophetess.

It is certainly a main point/foundational doctrine in the SDA Church. It is true that if the Roman Catholic Church ceased to exist today the SDA Church also could not exist, as so much of it’s theology is based on the Catholic Churc being the Anti-Christ.

In the Laodicean Council, the Roman Catholic Church officially transferred the solemnity of the Sabbath from Saturday, to Sunday, and forbid any Christian to thereafter keep that Sabbath, upon pains of excommunication. Canon XXIX “Christians must not Judaize and keep the sabbath, but rather they must work on that day. And if they can, let them honor Sunday, the lord’s day resting then as Christians. The general/ecumenical council that approved canon 29 of the Council of Laodicea (which was not an ecumenical council) - which has been quoted above - was the Council of Chalcedon, without which the canon would not have been officially incorporated into the Roman Catholic Church.

SDAs Don’t pore over Church council documents to find the truth. They do it to try and catch the Church in something She might say. Not unlike their pharasaical ancestors. Luke 11.53,54 “When He left, the scribes and the pharisees(SDAs) began to act with hostility toward Him and to interrogate Him about many things, for they were plotting to catch Him at something He might say”.
There’s nothing new under the sun.

This verse says nothing about the Sabbath being abolished, or Sunday being insituted in its place. Just because they tell us when something happened does not mean it changes or abolished the Sabbath day. These are desperate attempts to take any mention of the first day apologize for someting created by men.

“In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre” Matthew 28:1

Look at a similar verses: “And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on. And the women also, which came with Him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. And they returned, prepared spices and oinments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment” Luke 23:54-56.

Luke, writing 30 years after the ressurection says, “after they had rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment”, and makes no mention of it being changed or abolished.

You look but you don’t see and you hear but you don’t listen. You thumb your nose at the plain words of scripture to deny the Catholic Church, the “Body of Crist” by idolizing the Jewish Sabbath, the same way the pharisees held on to the Sabbath to deny Christ.

They are not just men. The Apostles had the same Authority as Moses and the Prophets had and they had full Authority to make these decisions.
 
herry, is it not of some importance to you to know whether or not Sabbath Keepers on the other side of the earth from Israel are actually keeping “THE seventh day”?

Lets step back a little bit.

Let return to your first post which tried to show that the Church condemned those who worshiped on Saturday. The was countered in post 22 which I have asked you to respond to at least three times.
May I assume then that you made a mistake in your claims and may be to embarrassed to retract?

You made this statement
The Apostles reckoned the days of the week from sunset to sunset. So they were gathered on saturday night. Paul was about to travel 18 miles on foot to his ship sunday morning --not a good way to Christen a new sabbath. The Apostles gathered to break bread every day of the week (Acts 2:46). Now, if they were gathered Sunday evening, then it would be monday to them, and the point is mute.

I pointed out the error in this statement which you again ignored. Was it for the same reason?

Jesus didn’t change it but he gave the power to his apostles to do so

One other thing for thought, our numbering of the days of the week is a human invention in that it was a human which decided what the first day of the week is. I know that the first day of the week is Sunday but that is not the first day of the work week. Now if you go with a work week Sunday become the last day of the week. O.K. I know that is week :whacky:
