The Sabboth

I heard someone say that the Sabboth is supposed to be the seventh day of the week, the day God rested, and pointed to several places where the Sabboth is referred to as the seventh day of the week. That same person also says that the seventh day is Saturday. Saturday in Italian is “Sabato”, and also Easter Sunday is supposedly on the first day of the week, which would make Saturday the seventh. Jesus was crusified on the day before the Sabboth, which we honor on Good Friday, which would seem to indicate that Good Friday is the day before the Sabboth. So my question is, why is the Sabboth on Sunday? Why not Saturday? Does it matter? I know this sounds like an antagonistic question but I really am wondering.

Adam: The pronunciation has me puzzled. Know what Sabbath is and your correct, it is Saturday. To people of Jewish faith it is the day to go to the Temple. However Sabboth, ya got me there. Best I could do for ya. dancus

somebody who? where did you hear it or read it, who said it, in what context. From the NT you can read that the early Christian communities led by the apostles celebrated the Eucharist on the first day of the week, the day the Lord rose from the dead. Should your source be more authoritative than the apostles, we would like to hear from him.

It was from a non-Catholic (and a lot of times, A/C). I stopped reading his magazine, Tommorow’s World, a long time ago, but there are still some things I read that haven’t been resolved yet, and this was one of them.
