In events that received widespread media attention, she was put in jail for 6 days when she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex marriages after gay marriage was legalized in the state of Kentucky. Now in a move approved by the state government, they are issuing such licenses without her name or that of other employees under her on them. Going after her even then, the ACLU then took her to court to force her to put her name on all same-sex marriage licenses, but now the court has ruled against this new attempt against her. She has received support among U.S. political leaders and met with Pope Francis.

Can we stop saying she met with Pope Francis… she didn’t really meet with him. That’s long since been proven to be a fallacy.

The ACLU - the great defenders of civil liberties, as long as those civil liberties don’t in any way oppose abortion or homosexuality.

I’m always amused that there’s LOTS of upset on the WWW about gay marriage, but when it comes down to people convicted enough to take action in the real world, we have only…Kim Davis, bless her heart.

Tempest meet teapot.

The county clerk’s office is issuing marriage licenses to gay couples. Kim Davis will not be forced to put her own name on them. None the less (if I understand correctly) legally valid licenses are being issued to gay couples. How is this Kim Davis “winning again”?

She wins because she doesn’t have to violate her conscience, didn’t lose her job, or have to spend more time in jail. It will be the same if the Little Sisters of the Poor win their court case.

I’m not defending them, but it’s interesting how they aren’t pursuing ligation against Muslim businesses for openly refusing to cater to homosexual “weddings”.

The left has a million and one excuses as to why they’re seemingly exempt.

i do not support gay marriage

but i would be interested in kim davis’ stand on the abortion iissue

Point taken. 🙂
What court case are the Little Sisters of the Poor involved in?

I remember this debate…if she was truly just in a general greeting line with other large groups of people, keep in mind media of all kinds were around during this, and Kim Davis was big news back then…where are the pics and video from the 1000 other people in the same greeting line, that were close to her? Ive seen many media videos from greeting lines, they show 10s of 1000s of people in these lines, so we should have at least a few pics/ video from some other people that were close to her, and maybe recognized her?

Plus, do you not think the media would try to get video and pics of her in this line? Im sure if she was there, people would be talking about it, and she would be swarmed by either supporters or protesters…right?

Besides this, one thing that made me believe she had a private meeting with the Pope is from the pictures taken of her and her husband at the time, the room they were in, had the same wallpaper, curtains, furnishings, as the video when the Pope met with his life long gay friend and his partner. I can provide links to these pics if you like.

I think you’re overlooking an essential concern underlying this litigation and would direct your attention to this paragraph in the article you cited:

“Deputy Rowan County Clerk Brian Mason said that Davis ‘confiscated all the original forms, and provided a changed form which deletes all mentions of the County, fills in one of the blanks that would otherwise be the County with the Court’s styling, deletes her name, deletes all of the deputy clerk references, and in place of deputy clerk types in the name of Brian Mason, and has him initial rather than sign.’”

The marriage licenses issued were altered to such an extent that there was every reason to question the validity of these of documents. Remember she altered these legal forms without any legitimate authoritative oversight. It would have been legally irresponsible to drop the suit without any legal assurance that the licenses issued would be considered legally valid.

It’s one thing to refuse to sign.

It’s quite another to play games like this one. She ought to be made to pay for printing new forms and the court should rule that all the defaced forms are valid. She’s pathetic.

Agreed on all points except describing her as pathetic. She’s dangerous because her example paints all opponents of same-sex marriage as being like her.
