As we approach Divine Mercy Sunday in an extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, I thought maybe folks here would like to read a short post I put on my blog yesterday on what I, IMHO, consider the second greatest act of mercy (at least the second greatest that I’ve ever heard of).

Feel free to add to this thread other acts of mercy that you’ve heard of!

Nobody else has any other stories about God’s mercy to share?

Well, I have another one.

When my future father-in-law was drafted into the army in WWII, he set things up so that his pay would go into his brother’s bank account. That way, if he died in battle, there wouldn’t be any problems with inheritance.

When he came back from the war and wanted his money, he found out his brother had spent every penny of it.

Can you imagine trusting a blood relative to take care of your money and then discover he had spent three years of your salary on himself?

Amazingly, not only did he forgive his brother, but his only comment about it afterward was “I guess he really needed the money.”

A man needed money to start his new buisness. He needed investment money to develope his idea and market it. My Father agree to lend him his start up money if he would consider giving him a parnership in his buisness. The man agreed.

The buisness became a success. And after a few years, the man told Dad that the sales were slowing down and that in a short time the product would be showing a loss. So he offered to return the seed money to save my Dad from a loss. Dad after some consideration agreed.

And of course the product took off and made more money over the years. This could have been a miscalulation but noone thought so.

But Dad didn’t take this the wrong way and remained friends with him.

Your Dad sounds like a terrific guy!

Yes he was.

There were a number of customers which owed money for some time on their account. Someone suggested to him that he should get a little tough with them about collecting the money owed. He just said that they were doing the best they could and continued to carry them.

I don’t know of anyone he ever said a bad word about, nor do I know of anyone who ever said a bad word about him (except mom occasionally doing her wifey stuff).
