According to Catholicism, could it be said that: Everyone dies once, and everyone lives twice. But only those who are wicked will die twice, an eternal death; and their second life will be similar to the first; they will age, become ill, and suffer injustice; then they will die. But those who are righteous will neither age nor become ill, nor suffer injustice; but they will live forever in youth.

No, people do not die a second time. The damned live in eternal torment in hell.
I would recommend you read the Catechism of the Catholic Church online, or buy a used copy.
By your threads you have a few misconceptions.
Peace.

I own CCC in hard copy and digital, plus the Didache Bible. It would be nice if you could cite a passage from the CCC which states that no one dies a second time.

All humans have both a soul and body, and the body dies and is resurrected, the just with a glorified body, and the unjust without glory, but the rational soul and the resurrected body never cease to exist.

Characteristics of the risen body

All shall rise from the dead in their own, in their entire, and in immortal bodies; but the good shall rise to the resurrection of life, the wicked to the resurrection of Judgment. It would destroy the very idea of resurrection, if the dead were to rise in bodies not their own. Again, the resurrection, like the creation, is to be numbered amongst the principal works of God; hence, as at the creation all things are perfect from the hand of God, so at the resurrection all things must be perfectly restored by the same omnipotent hand. But there is a difference between the earthly and the risen body; for the risen bodies of both saints and sinners shall be invested with immortality. This admirable restoration of nature is the result of the glorious triumph of Christ over death as described in several texts of Sacred Scripture: Isaiah 25:8; Osee, xiii, 14; 1 Corinthians 15:26; Apocalypse 2:4. But while the just shall enjoy an endless felicity in the entirety of their restored members, the wicked “shall seek death, and shall not find it, shall desire to die, and death shall fly from them” (Revelation 9:6).
These three characteristics, identity, entirety, and immortality, will be common to the risen bodies of the just and the wicked. But the bodies of the saints shall be distinguished by four transcendent endowments, often called qualities.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment: Hebrews 9:27

The second death is just a figure of speech the bible uses .

First death: that of the body
Second death: separation from God.
First life: life of nature.
Second life: life of grace.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Compendium of the Summa

CHAPTER 239

THE TWOFOLD LIFE RESTORED IN MAN BY CHRIST

As Christ destroyed our death by His death, so He restored our life by His resurrection. Man has a twofold death and a twofold life. The first death is the death of the body, brought about by separation from the soul; the second death is brought about by separation from God. Christ, in whom the second death had no place, destroyed both of these deaths in us, that is, the bodily and the spiritual, by the first death He underwent, namely, that of the body.

Similarly, opposed to this twofold death, we are to understand that there is a twofold life. One is a life of the body, imparted by the soul, and this is called the life of nature. The other comes from God, and is called the life of justice or the life of grace. This life is given to us through faith, by which God dwells in us, according to Habakkuk 2:4: “The just shall live in his faith.”

Thank you. That settles the question.

However, I am left with the thought: Why would God punish someone for eternity? Is not punishment a device used to correct bad behavior? To punish someone for eternity just seems sadistic — what purpose does it serve?

It’s been said before that God doesn’t send anyone to hell, we send ourselves, however, God allows us to go to hell for those who don’t want to be with Him and reject Him. Those people in hell hate God so much that they would rather spend all eternity suffering in hell than to live happily with God in Heaven forever.
