I’ve listened to a number of interviews lately with people who are readily identifiable as successful in the conventional sense (wealth, fame, opportunities come to them, influence, etc.) and have noticed that a lot of them talk about their success coming to them from “the universe” and then talk in a semi-spiritual tone about how things started working out in their lives. I cannot help but notice how common it is, especially among people whose success depends a lot on making the right connections at the right time. When I hear that sort of talk around success, I always feel uncomfortable…there’s just something that feels “off” about it to me…but you cannot deny that there may be something working there. If it is not of God, though…what is it?

The secret, the LOA and other new age spirituality is Satan. Its satan…100%
Stay away from it. Money, sex, beauty, fame…its all "given to these people " by focusing on him/herself and then the UNIVERSE(satan) rewards them. Its the opposite of what God says to do.
It works because Satan is smart and powerful. It’s worldy and dangerous.Ill save you the story, just trust me… Just stay with God

@rbhjohnson is correct, the reason if feels off is because these people basically sold there soul to get the “extra” help, and if not sold the soul they made some type of deal to get that extra help. Its not a good thing to have and it comes at a very deep price. If you want to get sucess then focus on your self with Gods help and do what he wants you to do. Sucsess will come that way.

It seems “off” because the people who claim it are somewhat delusional. There could be any number of reasons for their success that have nothing to do with the prosperity gospel they believe in.

It’s just people believing in themselves. Jesus also said to pray as if you’ve already received and the secret says to believe you’ve already received too

Many of the people claiming “The Secret” worked for them are people like Oprah Winfrey, who “discovered” “The Secret” AFTER she was a billionaire.

“The Secret” is utter tripe.

It works because the devil uses it as a lure to turn people from believing in God to believing in themselves. We are made not God, we do not have his level of power of creation, we cannot speak things into existence like the secret wants us to believe.

And you know how God will give rewards in heaven? The devil’s counterfeit of that is to give people their rewards on earth. The surprise plot twist they don’t see coming is that he’s not their friend and cannot protect them and they will be tortured for all eternity (the unrepentant ones).

It sure does seem to work for some people. I got wrapped up in all that law of attraction stuff some years back and it screwed me up big time. For me, it started with LOA and then I spiraled into aspects of the occult. In the process, I affected my mental state big time, and still trying to get myself out of it. Is it Satan? I don’t know. But I agree that something isn’t quite right there. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. HOWEVER, positive thinking and faith are proven to produce results so maybe that’s what’s at the basis of it all. Aspects of Scripture point to the same idea.

I know people who follow this cult. The Secret/Oprah Winfrey version of this is made to just sound vaguely spiritual and harmless, so that more people buy into it. But it’s anything but harmless. It was created by a woman named Esther Hicks who wrote the book based on what the spirit of a prophet named “Abraham” told her.

Basically this woman conjures this spirit and he speaks through her, either in group talks or she writes down what he tells her. So it’s a seance, it’s demonic!

The people that I know who “follow Abraham” as they call it would go see Esther and her husband speak, or rather, go see Abraham speak through Esther. The whole notion that we just need to rely on ourselves (not God) and that we have the power to will something to happen if we just ask “the universe” is so obviously wrong. Its different than just positive thinking. It’s to lead people away from God. And really, it makes people into their own God since they have this “power”.

Whether it really works for people, I don’t know. Obviously long term it doesn’t work. But maybe some people seem to get things based off of this method. Could be coincidence or could be from demonic influence. But in the end it opens people up to demonic and occult influences and causes a lot more harm than any good they could get from it. It’s evil, stay away!

If you don’t stop saying his name, he’s going to appear in a poof of smoke. 😈

As Scripture says “the rain falls on the just and the unjust”.

Health and Wealth, Blab it and Grab it, is not Catholic teaching.

Well said! I fell into the “Esther Hicks” thing so I know exactly what you speak of. I kept it vague in my other reply but that’s exactly where things went haywire for me. It starts innocently enough with The Secret but if an individual continues digging you’ll end up in the “Abraham” hole and darker. A “new age” friend is the one who introduced me Esther’s writings. If I knew then what I know now, I would have stayed far away…and even farther away from that friend. Live and learn.

but you cannot deny that there may be something working there
Sure I can! Here I go: It’s nonsense, tripe, garbage, delusional, ridiculous, borderline insane…shall I go on?

Go ask some poor folks how “the law of attraction” worked out for them. Funny how it’s always the successful people who feel “the universe is aligned…” blah blah blah.

Read a few books on probability and chance.

They’re paid to talk about it, and most of it is probably a stretch. The Secret is basically a business where they make money off naive New Agers.

Yep, I have pondered that very thing. It’s always a successful few who claim it works. Meanwhile, there are countless others for whom it does not. And their condescending response to those who claim it doesn’t work for them? “You’re not doing it right” or “You’re not positive enough”. Classic. smh. God’s will is never even mentioned.

Great answer, I hadn’t thought of it so clearly like this. I have thought before that God doesn’t give worldly success to people like they claim He does. But I didn’t even think that it’d be Satanto five that to them instead. Makes perfect sense. Thanks!
