This show is only 6 episodes. It is based on a true story of a Jewish Egyptian man
who comes to Israel and after being turned down twice, is accepted into Mossad
and becomes a spy in Syria befriending high profile people and even being named
Minister of Defence. He was a spy from 1961 - 1965.

I watched all 6 episodes back to back. I didn’t start until after midnight.

I started watching it a night or two ago. The first 5 minutes looked very…intense… Does this change throughout the 6 episodes?

That was today. I slept from 7am until 11:30am and then took a nap this
evening from 5:30pm until 7pm.

The show captivated me. I am not a fan of Sacha Baron Cohen, but he did a superb job playing the spy.

Intense is a good word to describe the show. Yes, the intensity remains throughout all 6 episodes @jack63

Intense like super-violent and graphic or just intense acting and situations?

I avoid really violent shows and will avoid any show that depicts violence or sexual abuse against children.

The show is intense because of subject material - you can imagine a spy deceiving
those around him and the danger of the possibility of being
discovered as a spy.

As far as violence, this is a true story so there are scenes of events that happened between Israel and Syria and scenes from
when a coup occurred in Syria as well in
1963 I believe. Out of 6 episodes, the violent or sex scenes are minor.

Very cool, I’ll check it out!

I’ve been re-watching a few old shows because nothing new out there has really appealed to me lately.

So is this an Israeli tv show? Or simply set in the Middle East? I’d like to check it out - but it doesn’t sound like something to watch with kiddos around.

I would say it is adult content. Someone
under 16 or 17 probably wouldn’t be able to follow the story or understand the historical context. It takes concentration also to follow along so I would recommend you watch it without having distractions.
You can google the name of the spy also and see pictures of the real man. He was
quite handsome. He did other admirable deeds while living in Egypt before becoming a spy for Israel.

I am not sure of the actor who stars in this is Canadian or British. I think he produced it. I am not sure if you can google the movie and it might tell you who made it and the company that released it.

Thanks for the recommendation. I love a good series binge as well. I’ve just watched “Unbelievable” back to back episodes. True story as well but it’s about a sexual abuse case so a bit violent in ‘recall’ scenes.

I was wondering about that one. I watched the trailer. I wasn’t sure if it woud be really depressing since it is a true story.

I made it through the first 20 minutes. That took a while. I’m on episode 3. This is a really excellent series. Thanks for the recommendation!

@jack63 Glad you are enjoying it. I started watching it one day and got about
20 minutes in and stopped because it was late. The next night, I started it over from the beginning and I am glad I did.

I thought it was excellent also. Hope you will share your thoughts after you finish
watching the final episode.

What struck me was how much courage it takes to be a spy.

Thanks for the info. Will definitely watch that soon. Unbelievable too is good. I recently watched AD Kingdom and Empire. It was fantastic, sad there’s no season 2. It kinda just leaves you hanging wanting more.

I agree with 7 Sorrows. It is a good series. I watched them in a few days. Based on the real life spy Eli Cohen. I like spy stories and thrillers, so this one was very interesting to me. There were some bad language and scenes not suitable for children. It makes you think about the price being a spy has to pay, having to lead a double life.

Another good on currently on Netflix is Vagabond. A Korean spy thriller which just started, 16 episodes in all. First 2 episodes were really good. I do not know if it is available there on Netflix US.

Another thing that scares me (when it is depicted in movies) is being an undercover police agent, which I guess is essentially the same thing.
