When I was a child growing up in USA and my mother would tell me about Fatima and Lourdes and I also read a children’s story about Guadalupe, I would ask, “Why doesn’t the Blessed Mother ever appear in the United States?” I thought maybe she didn’t like us.
Turns out she did appear, in Wisconsin, to a girl named Adele Brise. It just didn’t get much attention outside the local area. The apparition is known as “Our Lady of Good Help” and has been approved by the local bishop. As I am not from Wisconsin area, I only became aware of this a year or so ago. I would love to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, that currently stands at the apparition site.
I happened to find a nice detailed article about the apparition and the life of Adele Brise, who became a very active Catholic catechist and evangelist in her area. So I thought I would share in case anyone else wants to learn more about Adele and Our Lady of Good Help. To my knowledge this is currently the only approved Marian apparition in the United States.
Called to Evangelize: The Story of Adele Brise and the Mariophany That Changed Her Life
I note that there is another totally separate “shrine” in Wisconsin, NOT church approved, and built by someone who claims to have seen Mary, but in addition has made far-fetched claims like having allegedly seen St. Joan of Arc who told her that she (Joan) helped Presidents Washington and Lincoln win the Revolutionary and Civil Wars respectively. Sadly, the two shrines have been lumped together in some articles as “roadside attractions”, which is just ridiculous.
