The icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is prevalent all over the world in countless parishes, and it has been the site of miracles. In this image Jesus, still a child being held by his mother, sees the instruments of his passion, clearly showing that he already knew of this. Mary in this image looks not at Jesus, but at us. In the course of its story it may have vanished for good, but always returned to the people by divine providence. One time a family tried to secrete it in their home, but then were rebuked for this by supernatural visions, another time in the Nineteenth Century an army destroyed its church and, it seemed, this image, but by divine providence, it was found fifty years later.
