Hi,

there are now two pieces about the Nativity available to watch:
The Story of the Nativity is a documentary film from a team of Catholic Christian.
See: ignatius.com/nativity/

And there is a movie and a book too The Nativity Story from Angela Hunt.
See:
www.thenativitystory.com

I just wonder, is this similarity of the titles just by accident?

I am in UK and I was wondering if I could buy the first named title, The Story of the Nativity, on DVD as well in UK shops. However, I have found only the second one. And I have read then the plot of this film, have read different reviews on it. The big poster invites to see the film by: Experience the truth about Christmas (or something like that).

Well, are those two titles battling for the attention of the public or is it only my opinion that the Hollywood film can easily overshadow the other one let alone there is a close similarity of the titles, even though the first one is a documentary film and the second one is a story film?

I have not seen any yet, but I am simply happier to purchase The Story of the Nativity.

well let’s see, if you want to do a film treatment of the story of the nativity, there is not a lot of variation in the title of your movie is there. New flash: Catholics do not have a monopoly on belief in, appreciation for and inspiration from this story, nor do they hold the copyright on the bible. I don’t suppose those on this forum and elsewhere who have panned the Hollywood treatment without even seeing it have stopped to thank God that Hollywood is making this movie instead of some of other schlock they could be peddling.

I don’t think I would say that “Hollywood” made this movie… Christains might have made this movie. That whole “Hollywood” mentality wouldn’t have made it. You are giving them too much credit.

The Story of the Nativity, described in the first link, was a TV documentary that aired on EWTN the other night. It was very well done, similar in style to something you might see on the History Channel but from a Catholic perspective.

I don’t think it was meant to compete with the theatrical release of The Nativity Story but was made to expound on the subject of the birth of Christ so that one can have the full story from Scripture and Church teaching as presented by Catholic scholars and experts such as Edward Sri and Fr. Mitch Pacwa.

I’m not sure if it’s available in the UK yet but perhaps you could contact Ignatius Press through the same link and inquire about it.
