When it comes to the liturgy, at my Parish, we do things differently, such as standing during the consecration. Up until 3 years ago, we didn’t even recite the Nicene creed. Gradually, some sanity and conformity to the GIRM prevailed. However, the one thing that remains is we stand.
I understand that standing is not the universal posture during the consecration. Byzantines stand during the consecration, but my parish is a Latin Rite parish. So, the posture is to kneel with very few exceptions. The powers-that-be thinks that exception applies to us because they have been standing for years.
Yesterday, we get an announcement that we are now involved in a cluster and we will prepare for a forced cluster by sharing holy days of obligation. What it would involve is a four parish cluster. Two parishes will alternate masses for holy days of obligation. In the future, when the shortage of priests hits our area, they will likely have the 9:00 masses at parish A and B. The 11:00 masses will be at parish C and D.
I wrote and told my pastor that Liturgical uniformity will have to be addressed this case. I did not whine about us standing, but I told him that eventually, if 3 of the other parishes in our cluster kneel, we would have to evenually follow suit in order to prevent confusion. So, clustering, though seen as negative, will force churches to re-evaluate their liturgical abuses.
