If a person chooses to continue engaging in illegal activities despite having two strikes, that is a result of their own stupidity. I’m not going to feel bad for them.

It can result in an unduly harsh sentence, I agree, but they knew the risks when they chose to engage in whatever behavior landed them in jail.

But with the old law you could be convicted of three separate charges from the same incident and it would apply. It was used against some first offenders, didn’t have a chance to learn from mistakes.

I’m a middle of the road guy and hate the wild extremes. People definitely need consequences but they should be reasonable. Even non-violent offenders need consequences and shouldn’t just be released because the prison is full.
