Hi All,

Thanks once again for a wonderful forum.

There is one story that confuses me. What is or was the transfiguration about. When I say the rosary and come to meditating on the transfiguration, I’m wondering well what really happened? Please could somebody kindly ellaborate.

Thanks very much.

Let me add my .02 about the Rosary meditations…

I found in the past I had a hard time meditating on just “the events”, I was not sure where my mind should go. One day I came across an explanation of someone’s “Fruit of the Mysteries” which is offered as things to meditate on. For example, now when I get to the Transfiguration, I think about it in terms of my “Desire for Holiness”. Thinking of the sight it must have been to see Jesus during the transfiguration, how could I not want anything but to be purely Holy and with God in Heaven? So I meditate on the beauty f the event, my desire for holiness, and what it would mean for me to become that Holy.

Hope that helps!

Jesus gave Peter and James and John the Transfiguration so that they would have a vision of His Glory–to strengthen them for what was coming next His Passion.

Here’s my :twocents:…

The Transfiguration precedes the Passion and Death of Jesus. To me, the Transfiguration is a call during difficult times not to lose faith, a call to hope.

The vision of Jesus gloriously transfigured in conversation with Moses and Elijah and the voice of God from the cloud were intended to impress upon the Apostles that Jesus is the beloved Son of God and all that was going to happen to Jesus in Jerusalem during his passion and death was all part of our loving God’s plan foretold in the writings of Moses, Elijah, and the other prophets so that when it did happened the Apostles would not lose their faith. It is a reminder to us not to lose faith in God during the difficult times in our lives but to remember how God has manifested his love for us in the past so that, drawing strength from those past experiences, we might trustingly accept that even the difficult times, though painful like a pruning, are part of our loving God’s plan for us.

The transfiguration is one of the most profound mysteries, here we have Moses who represents the law of God, present with Elijah who represents the prophets of God. Jesus leads Peter, James, and John his brother up a high mountain, just like Moses and Elijah got a revelation from God up a mountain. Whats interesting is Jesus is transfigured before them all. Its Moses and Elijah conversing with Jesus, As they did in their history Moses speaking with God in the Burning Bush, and in the meeting tent, not to mention when Moses ask to see God, Moses being hidden between the rocks and God passed revealing only the back tail of his glory, and Elijah who doesnt find God in the fire or earthquake but in the wispering wind. A point to make here is Moses said a prophet like me will be sent to you and you will listen to him, Elijah is the one who is to announce the coming of the Lord, the Messiah. All this is made present in a single moment before eyewitnesses and much more… Now God speaks from the cloud and says " This is my beloved Son, with whom Iam well pleased" whats mysterious is that Moses and Elijah dissappear and only Jesus is there, Jesus is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets. And God says to the Apostles with the law giver gone and the prophet, “LISTEN TO HIM”, just like his mother stated in the wedding at cana, to the servers the Blessed Mother said, “DO WHATEVER HE TELLS YOU”. The mysteries are endless upon meditating and contemplating them. God is God of the living not the dead.

Wow, thank you all so much. Also thank you to awalt, a nice new way of meditating on the mysteries.

You are all amazing. 🙂

MAy God bless all of you.

To show Peter, James and John that Jesus is the FULFILLMENT of the Old Testament.
