Are you for real? Both O.T. & N.T. talk extensively about confession.
Here is what the Tanakh has to say about confession:
Psalm 32:
4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.
5 I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
6 For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
Proverbs 28:
12 When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.
13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
14 Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.
Daniel 9:
3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
There IS a difference between the confession to which the Church teaches and that which is spoken of in the Tanakh. Confession in the Tanakh also included:
- A sincere heart
- A turning away from iniquity
- Confession to God, not a man
There is nothing about anything that is done in a booth… no 10 hail mary’s… nothing of the sort. Also, note that true confession is not real unless there is a turning away from the wickedness… no coverings of blood are talked about.
The type of Confession that the Church teaches is not the type of confession that is taught in the Tanakh. In fact, that type of confession is so insincere, it is planned out. True confession, when the heart is heavy and burdened, does not follow a ritualistic visit to a booth.
