A Jehova’s Whitness wants a catholic answer to the question "What happens to people who have not heard the Gospel and (as a consequence) do not know about Jesus and salvation. He is referring specifically to the victim of the recent Tsunami.

Very gratefully,

Harold

I think that this belongs on the Apologetics forum.

My own reply would be that God gives every person a chance to accept or reject him.

If a person has not heard of Christ or Christianity and has not falied to seek to follow God’s ways and do good as they understand them. They have not rejected Christ and can attain Eternal Salvation.

We believe that unbaptized persons who do not have the opportunity to be taught about Christ, but do works of charity, loving another person, taking care of the poor and needy, are in fact, baptized by desire. They are loving one another as Jesus has taught us.

They can certainly go to heaven because Christ died for everyone, not just Christians. He died for all of us! It is up to God’s mercy and judgment.

There are two ways that i could answer this. One is that God is everywhere and anyone can see him easily, its just that people try not to. Therefore you don’t need someone to tell you that God is real as he is all around you.

The other way to answer this is that God will judge everyone equally, and I do think that he would give everyone the chance to accept him or not…God is kind and fair.

We are responsible to respond to the graces that God does send to us… to repent and turn to good. The unevangelized and ignorant are judged by how they respond to God’s grace. We have a natural homing device if you will, to respond to, to follow that Light, and return to God - we are also free to reject it.

If we are unevangelized - but have this Baptism of Desire - we are included in the Body of Christ.

Peace and all good,

yeah i know that i have issues sometimes with this question too, and with questions about people who did not have the same opportunity as me or my fellow Catholics to learn about God in a peaceful, loving setting, I simply take comfort in that God is a JUST and Loving God, and that He wishes all to be saved, so He will take this all into consideration and give all a fair chance
