Noticed what the author was harping about was no different from how WFB makes their own money…not sure it has any bearing, except fodder for neocons to bellyache about something.

I haven’t read this book and I have no intention of placing money into her hands via a book purchase.

I did, however, see her in an interview—and my takeaway was that: all white people are racist and of a white person denies this claim, that’s the proof that they Really Are Racist.

So I laughed and clicked away. 🙂

I’m amused at how the reaction of many white Americans to the George Floyd death was apparently to rush out and buy this book. People really do act like a bunch of sheep.

Needless to say, I don’t go running out to buy a book as a reaction to any crisis that might crop up in society, including this one.

Yeah, it seems like most if not all of these activists say that. It’s one reason why I never bother with their schtick, because nothing I could do would ever satisfy them, so why bother?

I try to treat other people as Jesus would want me to. That includes having some concern about things that make them upset or afraid. But Jesus doesn’t require us to accept or agree with every viewpoint of any particular group. And frankly, I have concern for our police and for other groups in society as well as for blacks. I’m never going to just swallow some allegedly “woke” viewpoint no matter who’s pushing it.

I am so, so glad, that I can point to one obviously none white surname in my family tree. (Since, the most common surname for American Indians is, “Smith”), to say “see? I can’t be racist, because only white people can be racist”. Literally, anyone can be racist.

Frankly, I had to put it down.

It is so full of straw men and stuff that it’s a chore to get through. I wanted to read it for culture literacy, but I fear I won’t finish it.

I was never a fan of the TV show “Portlandia”, but this particular clip always made me laugh and this thread just reminded me it’s still relevant.

Um, I just read the book front to back. Sorry??? (Baaaaa!)

It was a library copy. So don’t worry - she didn’t make any money from me. 😏 Not that there’s anything wrong with writing a book and making money from it - contrary to the thread title, she did nothing wrong in that regard.

Thanks - this is validating. I thought it was emotionally cheap and that, ironically, she exhibits quite the White Savior Complex. Her chapter about “white female tears” was excruciatingly sexist.

I’m not afraid of new or challenging ideas. I read everything from Thomas Sowell to Karl Marx. I like to know what others are thinking.
The Federalist, whatever you think of them in general, had a good article about that book and a recommended reading list.
Thanks. I’ll read through this. For the time, I recommend Biased, by Jennifer Eberhardt. She’s an African-American psychology professor at Stanford who details the science behind racial bias and how we can all keep that in check. For those who don’t have or want to take time to read it, here’s her Ted Talk summarizing it.
