The Way of a Pilgrim changed me completely because it taught me how truly important easeless prayer and especially the invocation of the Name of our Lord Jesus truly is.
The original pilgrim who wrote the book was actually a Ukrainian priest who, in the 19th century, was sent to various areas throughout the then Russian empire. Scholars in Russia have determined his name (which is in the Forward to the Way of the Pilgrim that is published by Paulist Press - I no longer have my copy and I don’t remember).
They compared the text of the Way to a number of other works that priest wrote and published - none of which bears his name on the covers - and determined it was his work.
For those who would like to pray the Jesus Prayer as outlined in that book, I cannot recommend the beadswork of Phillip Rolfes who has posted on this thread.
Phillip has a true gift for making rosaries and prayer ropes and I have personally found his beads to be an invaluable aid to the saying of the Jesus Prayer.
So I’m going to make a shameless plug for him and tell everyone to order a set of beads from him!
You won’t be sorry!
