In the Bible it says, “don’t say you will do this, or that…for the Lord determines a mans steps”. (Pvb. 16:9)

Is it therefore wrong to say “yes, I am going or the park tomorrow.” or “no, I wont be at work this afternoon.” Should one rather say “If it is the Lord’s will, I will be at the park tomorrow” and so forth?

I would consider it an admonishment not to be to prideful and a reminder that God is ultimately in control of our lives and that we rely on him for strength and grace. Christ reminded us of this attitude when he said Blessed are the poor in spirit. I wouldn’t literally invoke God’s name when making every plan.

Then again, sometimes when making plans, my Granddad always said, “Lord willing and the creek don’t rise”.
