The Wonderful Sacraments!

I just wanted to start a conversation about how truely wonderful the Sacraments are. I am 26 and have been a Catholic all my life but have always strayed away from the sacrament of Reconciliation. I finally went last year for the first time in over 12 years and it was SOOOO wonderful! I had done some really aweful things and had a 2 page list of what would seem to be the Devil’s checklist, but the burden that was lifted off my shoulders that day was miraculous. How did I ever live without this Sacrament? I can’t wait to go now when I mess up. I wait in the line all happy wondering why others aren’t just thrilled to death that all their sins are about to be placed as far as the East is from the West. Oh, and being able to receive our Lord worthily makes the Blessed Sacrament out of this world…literally. I now go to confession often and am in so in love with God for His great mercy and love. I encourage everyone who has been avoiding this Sacrament to just go! Jesus died the most aweful humiliating death for us, the least we can do is admit out loud our sins.

Hint: DON"T think about it! Of course examine your conscience but once you are ready just go. Don’t try to imagine what it will be like or what the priest will think or say. You will build it up to be something 1000 times more in your head.

My favorite Sacrament is the Most Holy Eucharist. Jesus Christ is always there for us, waiting for us, aiding us, coming into our hearts, building His Church - all out of love and mercy. We are not even worthy to be in His Prescence, yet He gives Himself to us. It is a true miracle which no human or angelic tongue can express.

I agree with you on the Blessed Sacrament. The grace and love we recieve from recieving our Precious Lord in the Eucharist is immeasurable. And we are so so unworthy. What a great and loving God!

Both ARE awesome, amazing sacraments. Way more than what we deserve.

I’m not all that excited to to stand in line waiting for confession, but I had a life changing experience there about 7 years ago. Now I go much more often, but there is usually still a little nervousness and disappointment about what I have to confess. You DO walk out a new person, though. Our pastor compared it to Lazarus rising from the dead.

The Eucharist - what can compare? How blessed we are! That our God comes down to be a part of us so that we can become more like Him.

dg, PRAISE GOD!!! And thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience! After reading… I was like… so happy for you!

I remember my first Confession “back” (after a 10 year absence from the Church); I suddenly realized, that I had been hauling around a ton of bricks with me! But I left it in the Confessional. I wanted to jump and shout for joy! Now, I go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation once a month… like clock work!

And recently, my mother and I have been privileged to start receiving weekly Sacrament of the Sick, along with Holy Communion. The graces just keep flowing from Our Merciful Savior!

Don’t you just LOVE being Catholic! Thank You Lord!

See now, I have friends that think I’m an absolute lunatic when it comes to Catholicism and especially the sacraments. I’m so glad to know that at least I’m not alone in my enthusiasm! What an awesome God to allow us the means of drawing closer to Him in such a tangible way.

I remember when I first came back to confession…the first time I didn’t do a really good examination of conscience, so I decided I’d better go back. I had some serious stuff that I had to confess and the priest was just like “uh huh, okay” and I can remember thinking “wow…why isn’t he freaking out? I sure am!!!” That night, when he gave me absolution…man, I had the biggest grin on my face all the way home.

And don’t even get me started on the Eucharist…you’ll never shut me up!!

When you think about some of the DUMB things that people get excited about, in secular society. And then, those devoted to Our Lord… are sometimes labeled as fanatic or lunatic… or something.

Ok… so we’re lunatics :whacky: lol! I can’t think of any THING or any ONE I’d rather be “labeled” for… than Jesus, Our Lord.

Unfortunately, in todays society, Reconciliation is the most neglected Sacrament among the faithful. Before we moved 3 years ago, we were in a more traditional parish (a huge one) and our Pastor always said the thing that made him the most proud was the length of the confession lines.

When we moved back home, the first time we went to Confession, we came as we usually did, about 1/2 hour earlier to get in line. We were amazed that there was only one person ahead of us.

I don’t think the youth and/or converts in most of the RCIA programs are getting the instruction they need regarding Reconciliation. In fact, I listened with horror to one 4th grade CCD instructor state that she always tells the kids that the most important thing for them to remember is their personal relationship with Jesus! That is a totally Protestant concept. These kids need to know what a sacrament is and what each one does to impart grace.

I went yesterday ,and you can feel all the pressure and anxity lift off of you when it is over . It is the second greatest gift given to the Church , only behind the Eucharist. I enjoy the sacrement of reconciliation .
