My mother was very fond of Kenneth Copeland, and so I was raised with a lot of awareness of that particular preacher and his teachings. Recently, I’ve been reading up on the Word of Faith movement again, and there’s some questions that I just can’t help but ask.

What do the adherents of Word of Faith theology usually think of the fact that those teachings are completely alien to anything in Christianity before Kenyon and Hagin arrived in the 20th century? Do they know? Do they care?

They actually believe that miracles can be just as plentiful as in the book of ACTS if people just have faith and don’t doubt.

So they would argue that we have lacked faith throughout the centuries and are getting back to the early Church when people were healed by shadows and handkerchiefs.

In my experience with that particular brand of Christianity, they seem to think that those new interpretations of Scripture were “revelation knowledge” given to them because they were open to believe them.

(Of course, the same could be said about some of the wild and crazy spins that St. Augustin, for example, was known to put out.)
