Forgive me if this has already been asked. I search the site with no luck.

This one comes from my DM.

“I need to know how the WORD “Rosary” came about. Who first used it and why was it called “Rosary”?”

The best I could find was a reference to the word coming from a Latin word for “crown of roses.”

Any takers?

Thanks,

Kevin

Try this EWTN Rosary

In his book “The World’s First Love” in the chapter about Mary, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen says that as early Roman virgin martyrs were led to the Colloseum, they would sometimes wear crowns of rose petals, because they were going to meet the King of Kings. After their deaths, they faithful would come and gather up these petals, saying a prayer for each one.
