This is probably the biggest Anti-Catholic site. To oppose what this person says, attach his claims to the email or board and defend the Catholic Faith. This site is something I just think us Catholics should be aware of. If anyone does not want to email him, then attach your responses to his claims on this board, and I’ll plan to email them to him.

I’ve seen sites with even more content that’s critical of the Catholic Church 🙂

I don’t think this site is anti-Catholic, so much as, opposed to whatever, in the judgement of those who set up, is opposed to Evangelical Christianity of a more or less Baptist type. The Baptists I’ve known, have far more important things to do, than to be primarily “anti-Catholic”: that’s not where the emphasis lies; the emphasis, for them, is on Christ. So distaste for Catholicism, though often real enough, is often a by-product of zeal for the interests of Christ.

Quite probably, not all Baptists keep the emphasis on Christ - opposition to Catholicism can take on a life of its own. But that is a temptation for them, just as there are temptations for us 🙂

One must also take into account the polarisation there is in Ireland between Catholic and Protestant: there are many wounds yet to be healed, on both sides. And the site is an Irish one.

Some sites are indeed repulsive 😦 ##

Clicking on the other links on that page, it takes you to the Chick Publications.

I’m amazed. I thought that type of website was an uniquely American phenomenon. I know Ian Paisley has a ‘bash the Catholics’ site. But He’s from Northern Ireland and it’s part of the whole preserve our political power, the catholics hate us mess.
Down here in the south Catholics & Protestants get on fine. In my town Catholics are the majority, there are a good number of Church of Ireland - that’s Anglican (partly because the town was settled by French Protestants in the 17th Century) and some Methodists. The local secondary schools (high schools) are catholic but the protestant ministers would come to teach their members if parents didn’t want them attending our religion classes. The various sports clubs etc. are used by all and I didn’t even know some of my friends were protestant until I was in secondary school.

Considering I’ve never even heard of the site (and I use the internet a lot) I don’t think he’s making much headway in ‘converting’ the Catholics of Ireland.

Hi PMV,

Yea, I’ve seen them all. This website doesn’t say who’s behind it but with the story of the “Death Cookie” and other stories of simple minds, I would say they are affiliated with Jack Chic, Tony Alamo, James White or maybe a 7 Day Adventist group. Many of these stories were passed around back even in the 1850’s!

Don’t worry. These groups will always be around. I was in a debate on Matthew Slick’s website long ago and I took on a 7 Day Adventist, A Christadelphian and a normal protestant (LOL) and at one point in the discussion, I said to the protestant: “Do you know that you are siding with a 7 Day Adventist and a Christadelphian? He said: " Oh, our differences are minor - You Catholics are the evil ones!” LOL Christadelphians don’t even believe in the Divinity of Christ.

It only proves that the TRUE BODY OF CHRIST is the Most Holy Roman Catholic Church.

May God bless,

Wow. All the common misconceptions (which I used to hold) about Catholicism on one convenient site. What a deal. I’m impressed. And regarding the real presence it beats Chick hands down. Chick gives cartoons. This eloquent site gives a fascinating poem about someone baking a loaf of bread for the mass and lacing it with arsenic.

The claim that the Bible contradicts EVERY Roman Catholic doctrine is one that I’d love to see justification for - working through the Catechism paragraph by paragraph. Maybe the site owner should be issued this challenge.

Blessings

I had no idea that relations between Catholics and Protestants in the South were good; so that’s very welcome news 🙂

Ian Paisley has his EIPS site - is that the one ?

It seems that Baptist & Calvinists are more likely than Anglicans to engage in anti-Roman polemic. The Anglicans who might do so, are the “Low Church” ones. High Anglicans have their objections, but, I don’t think they tend to be as vocal against “Rome” as their “Low” brethren; they certainly don’t criticise Rome for the same things as “Low” Anglicans, because they are not opposed to the same things.

So I can’t see Archbishop Eames (for example) even though he is a Protestant, seeing eye to eye with Ian Paisley; even though both have criticisms of the RCC. The Archbishop has been active in ecumenism - IMO the Church of Ireland is fortunate to have him.

Unfortunately, there is tension in the West of Scotland between Protestants & Catholics - and this is fed by, or feeds, the tension in Northern Ireland. My fear, though, is that USA Fundamentalism may be exported; I think it’s anything but desirable. ##

Thats the one, I went on it once just for curiousity cos I didn’t believe what I’d heard about it.

I wouldn’t be too bothered about US style fundamentalism taking hold. Irish in the South tend to be very laid back. EG. maybe five/ten years ago the National Front (white power movement in Britain) tried to set up in Ireland - they gave up cos noone could be bothered to join them. Not that we don’t have a problem with racism, we do to an extent, but it’s individual - not organised.

In fact people who have any religious faith in Ireland are almost united against the ‘liberal catholics’ who don’t want to be reminded about religion. For Example, our national TV & Radio channels have the Angelus rung at 6.00 & 12.00 every day. About four years ago the ‘liberals’ decided that it was offensive to other religions & should be stopped because Ireland was now ‘multicultural’. So they had a televised ‘debate’ and invited representatives from the various non-catholic religions to come on the show. To say how ‘offensive’ it was to them. So the show started and the presenter & the ‘modern catholics’ had their say. Then they went to the head of the Church of Ireland - he said they though it was a good thing that in todays secular world people were reminded to think of God. The presenter was a bit stumped but he probably thought well they’re both Christian - we’ll get support from the next one (my interpretation). So he asked the Chief Rabbi, who said the exact same. Then he asked the head of the Muslim faith in Ireland, who also supported it as a ‘call to prayer’.

I thought it was brilliant all these other religions who were supposedly being offended by the Angelus were supporting it. That completely destroyed the stop the Angelus agrument. Although they’ll propably try it again in a few years with the argument that those who don’t believe in God are being offended.
