I know this might be a weird question but I was wondering if the Eastern Catholics on these forums could give me a liturgical song from your particular church or one your familiar with that could really represent that Eastern Church. I ask because I’m currently creating a presentation based on the Eastern Catholic Churches and I was hoping to have distinct music accompany the slides of each different Church :). Thanks guys your (name removed by moderator)ut would really help. I don’t know much about the Eastern Churches so I didnt think it would be right if I got the music by myself.

Every Byzantine parish anyway has what is essentially a parish fight song, the troparia for the patron of the parish. If you want one man’s opinion probably The Paschal Troparia or maybe The Great Prokeimenon would do a fine job of exemplifying Byzantine Catholicism.

Catechesis,

Here is one from the Chaldean Catholic Church in Aramaic:

Qadish Qadish Qadish (Holy Holy Holy)

God bless,

Rony

The hymn “Karthave Nin”, is a Syro Malabar favorite. It is the East Syriac liturgical hymn of remorse translated into Malayalam. I’ve added both the Thuya (Old) form and Modern form of the song.

However, if you would like to present the particularly brusque nature of Syro Malabar Syriac Qurbana, I would very much recommend “Onisa Drase”, which is the hymn sung when preparing the gifts for consecration. This version of the hymn on youtube truly encompasses the traditional instruments that accompany Syro Malabar Syriac as well as the traditional tune in which our Syriac hymns were sung. “Lakhu Mara” or the hymn of resurrection is also very appropriate. I’ve provided a version sung in the Syro Malabar Syriac tune as well.

I apologize ahead of time for my off-topic response, but this has just become my favorite thread in CAF. I listened to the examples of music provided so far, and I am just in awe at the rich and diverse culture of our Catholic Faith.

OP, thanks so much for making the request. If there is a way to electronically share your presentation when it’s completed, I would LOVE to see/hear it. 👍

I would think, for all Byzantine Rite Churches generally (including my own Ruthenian Church, to which I am somewhat partial), Pascal Matins are likely considered the greatest on the whole, both in terms of spiritual depth of the text (the Canons) and the chant setting.

I’ve got a portion of the Churches done but there are still alot more I need music for. In example the Coptic, Ethiopian, Maronite and Melkite are among a few.
