Theology: Is Hell Crowded or Empty?

Great point. Hell’s going to be packed to the rafters from all the porn, infidelity, cohabitation, divorce and remarriage on and on, abortion, murder, mayhem, and irreverence as well as moral relativism and atheism that abounds. God help us.
Our Lady said at Fatima that “…many souls go to hell…” she also said that sins of the flesh were a major reason for that situation. If that was the case in 1917, what is it like now?

I have read the blog and it doesn’t change the clear scriptural indications that Hell is real and people go there and go there forever. He said that it would have been better for Judas if he had never been born, if Judas was to spend eternity in heaven, then Jesus’ words would not be true. It also doesn’t change Our Lady’s words at Fatima about the fate of many nor those of many saints on the subject. Hell is real, people go there and stay there forever. That is the unfortunate truth taught by the Church since its beginnings.
didn’t want to use the blog to try to refute it I just wanted to see your comments on his article. Sorry for the confusion

Does committing one mortal sin at the very end of your life (thus dying outside the state of grace) constitute living a life of hate?

Heaven or Hell is determined at the end of our lives when we die, and has everything to do with our exact state at that point in time. Our entire lives are meaningless in the end. Our present condition is what matters.
As I said, that type of decision is God’s alone to make. He knows if we just tripped, but really did mean well until the end or if we suddenly truly were filled with hate and died. Only God knows the true state of our heart so only He can say. shrug Depends on the situation I suppose.

Taking this statement of Jesus alone

Mathew 7:13-14 Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few
  • If Jesus was going to save everyone regardless, the statement of His from Matthew’s gospel would be empty of meaning.
  • Jesus wouldn’t scare us into thinking we could go to hell if He planned to save everyone anyway
  • there would be no need for judgement of souls at death if hell was meant to be empty
  • there would be no need for the Church
  • there would be no need for the Eucharist or the other sacraments
  • there would be no need for scripture and obey all the do’s and don’ts in it.
  • If hell is meant to be empty, death would just be transporting what the world is now with all it’s messes and corruptions, into heaven. THAT wouldn’t be heaven.
The one who wants to convince us there is no reason to fear hell because it’s not a possibility to go there, is Satan.

I posted earlier the quotes from Mt 7:13-14, Mt 7:21-23 and Mt 13:40-42. All quotes deal with words of Jesus regarding Hell. We have free will, we can turn away from God and place ourselves on the other side of the door. I can imagine this would not please our Creator since we are all His children and He wants us all with Him. I believe that to please our Lord we should all pray in earnest for those who are on the road to perdition (and for ourselves of course that we do not stray). We could make hell emptier through our prayers and example. (All simple and easier said that done, but we should start somewhere).

Peace.

*The Church does not claim knowledge or certainty of the location of Judas’s soul, and thus we as Catholics have no authority to make a definitive statement about it one way or the other. *

The Church can make definitive statements as to who is in heaven. But why would the Church bother to make a statement at all about the fate of Judas? Didn’t he pretty much speak for himself?

yes but we don’t know what went through his head at the second of his death it is very possible that before someone dies they have a revelation of Christ repent of their ways and turn to Christ meaning it is possible that God would accepted him into his kingdom.

When I think about hell, I think about this time of year. Think of it, Catholics (and Anglicans, Lutherans, etc.) are gathering for prayer, fasting, devotions, extra bible studies, etc. We come to Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, pray on Holy Saturday, and rejoice on Easter Sunday. We pour out our hearts with thanks singing, “were you there when they crucified my Lord?” kissing the Cross, mourning for our fallen Saviour…then smiling when we see Him rise.

Meanwhile a bunch of degenerates are gathering at Daytona Beach and all over the country with kegs of Budweiser, marijuana, wet t shirts, filthy music, heaps of debauched raunchy sex, and obscene orgiastic behavior colloquially called “Spring Break.”

Easter Holy Week vs. Spring Break…

Just makes me think of how Satan and Christ battle for our souls during the holiest of seasons. I know what side I’m on…👍

yeah my schools spring break is holy week and when i found this out i was like yeah I can attend all the holy week services and not have to worry about school work but then it crossed my mind all the catholics (my school has the largest catholic student body even though its a public school) and others whoes lives will be full of sin instead of being attending holy week services and i’m sure on easter sunday they will be driving back all hungover and so on and so forth. So spring break being during holy week has its +s and -s.

A good Catholic wouldn’t engage in that filth anytime, no matter what week it was, before or after. I almost respect the sinning hedonist more who rejects the Church and acts like Caligula than the Catholic who goes through the Passion with Jesus and prayerfully engages in the Divine Mystery of the Cross and Easter who then goes out and lives like Hugh Hefner for a week…😦

Entirely possible that Judas is in heaven.

I wouldn’t bet money on it! 😃

i wouldn’t either 😃

There is a narrow gate and a wide gate, Jesus tells us. Option A is thin, few get in. Option B is packed to the rafters with doomed souls. I think that pretty much answers the OP. In a culture full of free sex, drugs, cohabitation, libertine values, abortion, homosexuality, rampant divorce and bitter custody fights, if it feels good do it thinking, atheism, agnosticism, declining church attendance numbers, Oprah Winfrey guruism, and the like I think hell’s population explosion is a safe bet…😦

Let’s all pray we don’t end up there!
