The lectures on “Theology Of The Body” by Pope John Paul II. What language did he speak when he gave these lectures and what language were the original transcripts of those lectures written in? Also who translated the transcripts to the English language?
Thank you so much.

I would assume Polish but I don’t know. I will say TOB is amazing stuff and if you want to learn more about it, Christopher West does an amazing job discussing it in books and talks!

Before he was elected Pope, he wrote them in polish, intending to publish a book. He translated them himself to Italian after he became pope for the gerneral audiences. He specifically stated afterwards the Italian version were to be used as the official source.

Michael Waldstein did the English translated and he details this in his introduction.

You are welcome. I highly recommend reading Waldstein’s translation. If you put yourself on a specific program, it is quite doable. I spend 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week doing it. Could get through one audience each day. It took 4 or 5 months, but that way it wasn’t too daunting. They are not as hard to understand as the “experts” will tell you (who are likely trying to hawk their summary book, the cynis in me says). You will be in for a pleasant surprise. (oh, very, very little sex, BTW).
