Zakusa quoted Saint Athanasias and Sauint Justin Martyr on anther thread when he was trying to equate theosis with Mormon exaltation/diefication.
For Theosis I shall expound on II Corinthians 5:14-21
14For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
This is the beginning of Theosis. We live for Christ and not ourselves.
16So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.
As we live for Christ our point of view changes. Romans 8 says that we were predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ. As we live for Christ our view point changes and we become more like him.
17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
As we live for Christ, our view point changes, we become more like him and the result is a complete metamorphosis. We become something that did not exist before.
18All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
This is from God and not something we obtain by works but by grace.
19that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

I shall now expound on Phillipeans 5:5-11
5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
it is obvious that as As we live for Christ, our view point changes, we become more like him and as we become more like him our attitude shpould be like his.
6Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
So What Jesus did was for us and not to obtain equality with God.
7but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Christ humbled himself.
9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Becuase Christ humbled himself God The Father exalted him. As Jesus did not humble himself to obtain equality with God or be exalted God exalted him.
This is a model of theosis.
If Jesus humbled himsself to be exalted it would have been false humility.
Mormon exaltation is not the same thing.
They believe that they can literally become gods by doing all the right things. Of course as grace and truth came through Jesus christ and still does come through him and Mormons have not got Christ they can’t obtain grace for theosis. So the Mormons do it by works. It is not based on the fear of The lord and knowing what it is but based on doing these things to obtain diefication.
Christians do not live for christ to obtain glorification, though glorification may be the result. Mormons knock on doors and stuff to obtain exaltation, therefore Mormons have flalse humility.
Maybe some Orthodox here can expound on theosis better. as an Anglican i’m far from being an expert.
