They Just Don't Get It

Actually, I pretty much agree with the quote with regard to what Christianity is. My reason for being outside the Catholic Church isn’t that I’m not pursuing a vibrant life of faith and relationship with God, but that I don’t agree with the exact set of “creed, doctrine, and liturgy” of the Catholic Church…which as you said isn’t really the point anyway

Indeed you do “not have to be Catholic,” one does not in the absolute sense of the word have to accept Catholism in order to get to Heaven.Which is a docrine of the RCC.

But here are some reasons that you might prayerfully ponder that justify a second thought to your position.

I’ll share only the topic heading, and will gladly “flesh out” anything that you might wish further enlightenment on.

1. The Roman Catholic Church has been in contineous belief and practice for some two thousand years. With an unbroken line of Papal Rule. And was the Only Chrsitian Church for the first fifteen hunderd years. The New Testament was written, inspired by God, by only Catholic authors.
2. Factually and historically, the RCC is the only “Christian” denomination personally founded by Jesus Christ Himself, while here on earth. Mt. 16:13-19
3. In 1962 there were about three thousand world wide “Christian denominations.” Today, forty seven years later, there are nearly FORTY THOUSAND. Why? If there is only “one truth” how can there be forty thousand understanding’s on that single truth.
4. The RCC practice Seven Sacraments, all iniated by Jesus Himself, and all having a bibical foundation.
5. They are: Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist. Reconcillation, Marriage, Holy Orders and Annointing of the sick, also called “the Last Rites.”
6. The most important of these is of course, Baptism, without which we cannot access the other six, and of course Baptism is essential to our Salvation through the merits of Jesus Christ.
7. The most signifiant Sacrament, indeed the goal of all the other Sacraments, in that they lead to it, is the Sacrament of The Most Holy Eucharist, which RC’s properly understand to be the Real, as in reality, of the same Jesus born pf Mary and the Holy Spirit, the Same Jesus who died on the Cross for our Salvation, the same Jesus who was burried and on the third day, “Rose again from the Dead,” now in His Glorified Body, no longer inhibited or limited to the constraits of body that you and I experience is actually present in the Sacred Host of Catholic Holy Communion. We Catholics, believe that it is this very same Jesus, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, that we actually receive. Not a sign, not a symbol, but REALLY JESUS, why" Because Jesus Himself tells us it is so!
8. Evidence of this truthful understanding, belief and practice is super abundant in the Bible, (KJV too), Matthew, Mark, Luke, St. Paul and in a special way, John, all write and speak of this most wonderous miracle, that only God can do, and ONLY the Catholic Church and the Eastern Rite Churches that too have direct Apolostic Succession, ONLY in these Church’s can one actually be so wonderfully and fully united with the God who created us.
9. That my Christian friend is a very powerful and compelling reason to be a informed, practicing Catholic.
10. This fact more than any other reason, is why the Catholic Church continues to be the largest Chrsitian denomination in the world and here in America. The second largest group, is “fallen away catholics” who for alot of reasons, refuse, with heardened hearts, the Wonder and Majesty of God’s continued REAL Presence in our midst. Amen:thumbsup:

Luke 28: 19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” Jesus wasn’t speaking simply about His Spirit, No, He was speaking about His Very Being, Amen:thumbsup:

It seems that many an atheist, agnostic, and other non-Catholics just don’t get the faith. I think the reason is that they come to it from the wrong angle. They want to see the philosophical proofs and empirical evidence - all pointing to a fundamental lack of trust.

My question is: Why are atheists, agnostics and other non-Catholics here at all?

I actually welcome them being here, regardless of their reason for being here, but it would be nice to know the real reason each individual is here.

As to them “not getting it”, many Catholics ALSO don’t “get it” and are “passing” as “willing” Catholics while being “inertial” Catholics.

To “get it” is to know what “religious reasoning” is. Religious reasoning is to know that you must believe before you can have confirmation of belief.

Now, religious reasoning is not anti-scientific, and is in fact super-scientific (contains scientific reasoning), because scientific reasoning does precisely the same thing without recognizing a simple truth that religious reasoning does recognize.

That “simple truth” is that God qua God as known by the Church is the sole organizing principle of all creation.

What scientific reasoning does recognize is that there IS an organizing principle inherent in all creation, but they refuse to consider it, because it is “irrelevant” to scientific reasoning.

But scientific reasoning is concerned only with “engineering”, which means that it is concerned only with “making tools”.

Religious reasoning is concerned with not ONLY “engineering”, which it hands off to those who “do science”, but also with “truth” which informs real morality which is displayed by real ethics.

Religious reasoning is the “governor” of scientific reasoning. Without religious reasoning scientific reasoning “engineers” inappropriately and creates evil.

Those who hold that there is no God as God is known by Catholics as told to them by the Church MUST rely on scientific reasoning alone.

To do that is to create blind “engineers” who are prone to create evil “machines” (engineered devices and techniques) who are without a way to see their evil sub-creations (mechanisms) as being evil until it is too late. :shamrock2:
