I got something similar in email, but its good food for thought. I’m not talking about things a single individual has done, which can be repented of by the one person, I’m talking about things society in general has done that warrant repentance.
"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We confess that we have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word.
We have *killed our unborn *and called it *choice.
*We have *shot abortionists *and called it *justice.
*We have *rewarded laziness *and called it *welfare.
*We have *starved the disabled *and called it *dignity.
*We have *neglected to discipline our children *and called it *building self esteem.
*We have *polluted the air with profanity *and called it *freedom of speech.
*We have *polluted our hearts with pornography *and called it *freedom of expression.
*We have *ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers *and called it *enlightenment.
*We have *appeased tyrants *and called it *peace.
*We have *kicked You out of public places *and called it *freedom of religion.
*We have *torn apart our families *and called it *liberation.
*We have *taken Your Word out of context to defend poor behavior *and called it *tolerance.
*
We have emailed the most appalling loads of rubbish to everyone we know, but when receive something that honors You we think twice about who we forward it to.
We gladly passed on perverted jokes and offensive garbage, but have been ashamed to pass on a verse from the Bible (unless, of course, we are taking a verse about “not judging” out of context to somehow justify improper behavior).
Just some food for thought. Feel free to add anything you think society should repent of.
Blessings.
