Hi,
So this week my priest has asked for people interested in being involved in the RCIA program. Apparently there hasn’t been one run for 2 years!

As a convert, I feel a special affection for RCIA, and would really like to be involved. The only issue is that I am still relatively new to the faith (2006) and I have had a lot of struggles on my journey. While i am in full communion with the church, i wonder if my struggles make me a not so good role model and I’m not sure that it would be appropriate for me to be on the team as it were, but I still feel called to become involved.

What do you think?

Your struggles may make you much better at it! I believe God allows us to go through struggles so that we may become more effective as his servants. Many who will go through RCIA have been through and will go through many of the same things you have been through. It may be helpful to them to be able to relate to someone such as yourself. Follow the Spirit!

As a new to the faith person in RCIA, I would be happy to have someone with your honesty in our group. I enjoy seeing the participants/guides in all levels of experience with their faith and helping to validate what I am experiencing and growing into. RCIA is a growing together experience.

Move forward with your heart leading the way. I trust your faith will grow as you journey with us new to the Church.

I’d encourage you to tell your pastor you’re interested, and feel free to discuss any worries with him.

Yes your struggles and honesty would seem to make you better at helping the RCIA.

God bless

My wife and I just converted this year and I have been asked to help with not only our upcoming RCIA but, also with Confirmation classes. I think being a convert makes us not only more understanding of the process and emotions involved but, we are also familiar with the questions the potential converts will have. I say go for it!

Thanks everyone for your support! Unfortunately the RCIA meeting is on a night I have a prior commitment wi my daughter, and due to work scheduling this week I’m not able to see my priest until after mass sat night.
But I will definitely talk to him about it!
