After starting a new job I’ve started spending coffee breaks and lunch breaks with a female colleague. She’s got an open friendly personality and we talk a lot about work and our personal lives. The last few weeks I’ve started thinking about her almost obsessively during the week and on the weekend as well. What should I do? We are both married with kids.

Go to the confessional immediately and promise you will never do it again.

Quit meeting one-on-one. Make plans to do something special with/for your wife. Never hurts to think about ideas for date night, and it will provide a healthy distraction until these thoughts go away.

A short prayer can help redirect your thoughts. I heard a Protestant on the radio who I think got it right. It’s not the first thought, it’s the second.

Yeah, avoid it like the plague man. If you can avoid working on projects with her, do that.

Stop spending time with her. Busy yourself with everything else.

Are you entering into the ‘middle age’ years? This is a common temptation at this age that can lead to full blown crisis with disastrous consequences if it isn’t dealt with now. If it wasn’t her it would be someone else because it isn’t a serendipitous connection. Bit by bit you will start finding fault with your wife that will justify you ‘straying’. So many people that go through this head first, are filled with regret at destroying a perfectly good family life believing they are pursuing true happiness.

Get some counselling and put effort into making your marriage a loving one. God bless you and yours at this time.

It’s normal to feel attracted to somebody who’s fun to be with. And sometimes attraction can sneak up on you. But now that you recognize it, you need to do something about it.
First step, stop spending time alone with her. And reach out and make friends with your other coworkers. And don’t dwell on thoughts of her and especially don’t start comparing her with your wife (co-worker is a fantasy figure you’ve been projecting your own wants onto)

Sometimes a crush happens because of something we want in the relationship you have, like excitement or newness . When you figure out what that is, you can take steps to restoring it in your real relationship.

God bless!
