Third Fatima Secret

I would like to ask a question regarding the so-called third prophecy of Fatima. To save everyone some time I do know about the visitations and appearances at Fatima and know of the appearances of the Angel(?) Virgin (?) to Sister Lucia and her two companions. I know that they received three visions or prophecies of future times. One of these said that World War One would soon end. The second said that Russia would turn into an atheistic nation. The third is a source of controversy I understand. A copy was supposedly kept in a vault in the Vatican secret archives and its exact nature has not been revealed until Pope John Paul II. It is said that Pope John Paul II told the world that the prophecy spoke of the assasination attempt against him. But I have heard others say that the real prophecy is still concealed. Can anyone give me the “low down” on this whole controversy?

According to The Congregation of the Clergy (you have to register to read it):

Statement on Father Nicholas Gruner

The Congregation for the Clergy declares that the International Meeting on the topic, Peace in the World and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, scheduled for 8-12 October in Fatima, Portugal, and organized by Fr. Nicholas Gruner, has not been approved by the competent ecclesiastical authorities.

The Congregation also declares that the same Fr. Nicholas Gruner does not have faculties from the Diocese of Leiria-Fatima to perform ministerial acts.

I wouldn’t use Fr. Gruner as a source for this or anything else.

Wasn’t there a bunch of way out-there types a while ago claiming that the third secret of Fatima was that Mary was in fact another person of Gof or some such? :bigyikes:

disclaimer for those types out there convinced that Catholics secretly think Mary is God - the group that claim this have NOTHING to do with the Church.

There is no part B. All has been revealed. The Vatican has said so. And the Holy Father was under no obligation to reveal any private revelation to anyone. It was up to him to decide if or when it would be revealed. When it did come out I found it interesting but hardly all that important. Prophecies are all very well, but they are not the meat and potatoes of our faith nor should we care one way or the other about them, IMHO. Especially when they can be interpreted to mean just about anything and everything we need to know about it the thing HAS BEEN TOLD!

As I recall there was permission to reveal it in 1960, but no requirement that it be revealed. I think think Pope John XXIII stated he thought it would be inopportune given the situation at the time. ?Sorry, I don’t remember the details; so can’t explain that further.]

There is a new heresy—based on the conspiracy theory that the real 3rd secret of Fatima was withheld by the Vatican–called the “Mary is God Movement.” These nutjobs think that the real 3rd secret says that Mary is the Holy Spirit, or something to that effect. This is, of course, untrue.

The third secret has been fully disclosed by the Vatican. There is no conspiracy. Mary is not the Holy Spirit, but the Mother of God and Church and is the greatest of all the Saints.

Sometimes the finality in thoughts does not lead to continued discussion.

I usually try to see the openness for questions. The bad thing about this topic - there are very few who really have all the facts.
So the questions will probably remain.
